How to Tank Your First Dungeon in WoW Forever: 6 Steps
To tank your first dungeon in World of Warcraft: Forever (WoW Forever), play Protection Warrior, Protection Paladin or Feral Druid, switch on your tanking stance, seal or form, mark the pack, pull one group at a time and keep every enemy attacking you. Warcraft Tavern's dungeon list puts Ragefire Chasm and Hall of Thanes lowest, both at levels 13 to 18.
Quick answer: The tank pulls, the group waits a moment, and Taunt, Growl or a Paladin's Judgement pulls back any enemy that strays. Look at the healer's mana before every pull. Every guide cited here was written for a beta capped at level 30.

The tank walks in first, and the cave goes quiet only when every eye in it is on you.
Key facts
- Tank specs: Protection Warrior, Protection Paladin, Feral Druid; Enhancement Shaman can tank "in a pinch" (Warcraft Tavern)
- Warrior: Defensive Stance comes from a class quest at level 10 and adds 30% threat (wow.gg, October 1)
- Paladin: Seal of Fury's Judgement taunts from 10 yards; Growl and Taunt reach 5 (Blizzard)
- Druid: Bear Form is learned by quest at level 10; no Block or Parry (Warcraft Tavern)
- Lowest dungeons: Ragefire Chasm and Hall of Thanes start at level 13 (Warcraft Tavern, Warcraft Wiki)
Which classes can tank in WoW Forever?
Three, with a fourth in a pinch. Warcraft Tavern names Protection Warrior, Protection Paladin and Feral Druid, plus Enhancement Shaman in a pinch. Blizzard's Paladin deep dive says that after its changes Paladins "can be highly effective tanks." See best tank class and tanks and healers.
What do you set up before the first pull?
Your stance, seal or form, and a shield (both Warcraft Tavern tank guides say always use one). According to Warcraft Tavern, Defensive Stance reduces damage you take and deal while raising threat; wow.gg puts that at 10% less damage and 30% more threat, and says switching stances empties your Rage until Tactical Mastery at level 14. Warcraft Tavern adds that Rage decays outside combat, so you start almost every fight with none.
Warcraft Tavern's Protection Paladin guide names Seal of Fury as the go-to seal, and Gfinity calls Righteous Fury mandatory at all times, although Blizzard says its threat bonus was reduced. Druids use Bear Form, which Warcraft Tavern says adds armor and health but gives no way to Block or Parry.
How do you pull and keep threat?
Pull small. Warcraft Tavern says the tank usually pulls to establish initial aggro, and groups mark Skull to kill first and Cross second. mein-mmo (October 21) says to watch the healer's mana before each pull, and that healers and damage dealers should hold back until the tank has had a moment to build threat.
To gather a pack, wow.gg recommends Thunder Clap and spreading Sunder Armor stacks evenly across targets so you hold all of them, and says Revenge "generates a lot of threat." For strays, Warcraft Tavern's Feral Druid guide says Growl taunts an enemy that is not attacking you, and Blizzard says Swift Judgement lets a Paladin tank react to a resisted taunt. Read threat and aggro explained.
How does a tank handle Ragefire Chasm or Hall of Thanes?
By reading each boss. In Ragefire Chasm, Warcraft Tavern says to keep aggro on Oggleflint's two adds until the damage dealers kill them, to try interrupting Jergosh's Immolate, and to approach Bazzalan cautiously. In the Hall of Thanes, it says to tank the boss with your back to a wall because Plunder charges random party members, and that Faldrim's Anvilmar's Curse cuts the tank's attack and casting speed by 20%.
What is not confirmed yet
- Levels 31 to 60: the beta ended at level 30, and the launch cap is 60.
- Level ranges differ: Warcraft Tavern lists Ragefire Chasm at 13 to 18, and Warcraft Wiki's Forever table at 13 to 19.
- wow.gg's Warrior guide covers the beta only to level 20.
How can the Lore Forever add-on and Willo help you tank?
The free Lore Forever add-on, fan-made and not affiliated with Blizzard, links a dungeon primer in chat as you enter, with the bosses in order, for dungeons up to level 30, including the Hall of Thanes. Willo, a Windows companion app, lets you ask out loud what to do next, hear the answer, and keep a notebook of to-dos. She is free to start with 50 answers a day, works without the add-on, and can be wrong.
