Best Race for Priest in WoW Forever: Guides Compared

Six of the nine races can play a Priest in World of Warcraft: Forever (WoW Forever): Human, Dwarf, Night Elf and Gnome for the Alliance, and Undead and Troll for the Horde, according to Blizzard, and Gnome Priest is new. The guides disagree on the best: the Dwarf is "Best pick" at Gamer Guides and B tier at RankedBoost.

Quick answer: For the Alliance, Gnome is the pick at GamerBlurb and GamesFuze and S tier at RankedBoost, Dwarf at Gamer Guides, Night Elf at Warcraft Tavern, and TimeSaver gives Human or Gnome for healing. For the Horde, Undead is the most common name; Troll is contested. No Skyborne branch can be a Priest.

Which races can be a Priest in WoW Forever?

Blizzard's tables list Dwarf, Gnome, Human and Night Elf for the Alliance and Troll and Undead for the Horde, with no mark for either Skyborne branch. Method and Gfinity give the same six races, and Method notes that Priest is now open to Gnomes. See the race and class combinations guide, the Priest guide and the Priest talent build.

Which Alliance race do guides pick for a Priest?

Four Alliance races qualify, and each guide lifts a different one.

  • RankedBoost (updated October 17): Gnome S, Night Elf and Human A, Dwarf B.
  • GamerBlurb (October 18): Gnome, for Eureka, Expansive Mind, Confounding Flash and Contingency Plan.
  • Gamer Guides (updated October 18): Dwarf "Best pick", for Stoneform and Desperate Prayer; Human, Night Elf and Gnome "Solid".
  • GamesFuze (September 24): Gnome, "the best option for a race".
  • mein-mmo (October 28): Gnome and Dwarf for PvE; Human and Gnome for PvP.
  • TimeSaver (October 29): Human or Gnome for healing; Dwarf for Shadow, for its 1% spell hit.
  • Warcraft Tavern's Priest guide (undated): Night Elf "seems to be the most strong as it stands", for Starshards and Elune's Light; Gnome "deceptively strong".

Which Horde race do guides pick for a Priest?

Two Horde races qualify, and the guides disagree about the Troll.

  • RankedBoost: Undead and Troll both S.
  • GamerBlurb: Undead. Gamer Guides: Undead "Best pick", Troll "Solid".
  • mein-mmo: Troll for PvE; Undead for PvP.
  • TimeSaver: Undead for PvE, more clearly than before; Troll as the raid-throughput alternative.
  • Warcraft Tavern: Undead "seems to be the strongest right now", for the proc rate of Touch of the Grave; Troll is weaker than usual because Haste helps few Priest spells.

RankedBoost, by contrast, says Berserking speeds all 294 castable Priest spells by 10%.

What changed and what do the Priest racials do?

Fear Ward is no longer a racial: Warcraft Tavern's races guide says the Dwarf was once near-mandatory for it, and it is now baseline for all Priests. Per Warcraft Tavern's racial pages and reports, Dwarf Stoneform cuts physical damage taken by 10% for 8 seconds, Gnome Eureka is an 8-second buff after October 16 that also benefits Power Word: Shield, and Undead Touch of the Grave has a 15-second internal cooldown after October 27. mein-mmo says racial advantages are very small and suggests choosing for looks unless you are a min-maxer. See racials explained and the best healer class page.

What is not confirmed yet

  • Whether the October 26 and 27 values are live on November 4; mein-mmo's October 28 article says the character creation screen did not yet show them.
  • Troll Berserking: Warcraft Tavern's Priest guide says Haste helps few Priest spells, while RankedBoost says it speeds every castable Priest spell by 10%.
  • Priest performance beyond level 30, since the beta ended there; the launch cap is 60.
