WoW Forever Priest Talent Build: Best Leveling Spec and Skill Tree (1–30)
For leveling a Priest in WoW Forever, the guides do not settle on one build: Warcraft Tavern's beta guide gives three level 30 builds (a wand-focused Discipline build, Holy and Shadow) without ranking them, while Mobalytics recommends a Shadow build that spends 21 points as 2/0/19. Both the Discipline and Shadow plans use the wand, and Warcraft Tavern adds that leveling mainly as a healer is slow. Talent points start at level 10.
Quick answer: If you want to keep the wand-and-spells style you used in the early levels, follow Warcraft Tavern's Discipline wand build and unlock Penance at level 30. If you prefer damage, follow Mobalytics' Shadow build, which relies on Spirit Tap and a wand. Choose Holy only if you plan to dip into dungeons a lot. These builds come from the beta, which stopped at level 30.

Key facts
- First talent point: level 10 (Warcraft Tavern). The Talented perk can move it earlier; see talents explained.
- Discipline build: Inner Focus at 20, Penance at 30, Power Infusion at 40 (Warcraft Tavern).
- Holy build: Holy Nova at 20, Binding Heal at 25, Prayer of Mending at 40 (Warcraft Tavern).
- Shadow build: Mind Flay at 20, Vampiric Embrace at 25, Silence at 30, Shadowform at 40 (Warcraft Tavern).
- Mobalytics Shadow plan: 2/0/19, which is 21 of 51 points (Mobalytics).
- Method's respec plan: a build for levels 1 to 29, a respec to Penance at 30, and a respec to Shadow at 40 for Shadowform (Method).
- Respec fee: sources disagree. Allthings.how (September 21) lists 1 gold, then 5 gold, rising to a 50 gold cap; Warcraft Tavern (September 24) reports a temporary beta cost of 1 silver. The launch fee is unconfirmed.
Which talent tree should a Priest level in?
Warcraft Tavern's leveling guide gives three level 30 builds and does not rank them. Discipline is "mainly focused on the Wand playstyle," keeping you alive while you weave in spells. Holy is for players who plan to dungeon a significant amount, and Shadow is for players who love the damage playstyle. Warcraft Tavern says leveling mainly as a healer is not recommended because of slow kill times, and that Shadow does not start shining until around level 28 unless you have decent spell power.
Mobalytics' guide goes straight to Shadow and calls it great for solo, duo and group leveling. Method plans a respec for Penance at level 30 and a Shadow respec at level 40. For races, spells by level and basics, read the Priest beginner guide.
What is the Discipline wand build?
Warcraft Tavern's Discipline build continues the wand-and-spells approach of the early levels, aiming to keep you alive with minimal downtime. The rotation: cast Power Word: Shield, open with Smite, add Shadow Word: Pain, use Penance after level 30, and finish with the wand. Before talents, the early build is simply Shoot with a wand and Lesser Heal when your health is low. Penance is the level 30 payoff, and Inner Focus comes at level 20.
What is the Shadow leveling build?
Mobalytics lists these talents in order: Wand Specialization 2/2, Spirit Tap 5/5, Improved Shadow Word: Pain 2/2, Shadow Focus 3/5, Shadow Reach 2/2, Mind Flay 1/1, Improved Mind Flay 2/2, Vampiric Embrace 1/1 and Shadow Weaving 3/3. If you cannot get a wand by level 10, Mobalytics says to hold the first 2 Discipline points and go straight into Shadow. Warcraft Tavern's Shadow rotation is Mind Flay after level 20, Shadow Word: Pain, Mind Blast and Devouring Plague after level 20.
Method's page says respec to Shadow at level 40 to get Shadowform, and that a Shadow Priest can still heal dungeons without a respec, at slightly worse mana efficiency than a full healing spec.
When is Holy the right Priest spec?
Warcraft Tavern presents its Holy build for players who plan to dip into dungeons a significant amount of their leveling time. The Holy build adds Holy Nova at level 20 and Binding Heal at level 25, and Prayer of Mending at 40 is the capstone. Its rotation is the same as Discipline minus Penance. See the tanks and healers guide and dungeon groups for group roles.
Can you change your Priest build later?
Yes. Your class trainer in your race's capital city resets talents. The price has moved: allthings.how (updated September 21) lists 1 gold for the first reset, 5 gold for the second and a 50 gold cap, while Warcraft Tavern (September 24) says the beta cost is now 1 silver if you have not recently changed talents, and calls that temporary. The launch fee is unconfirmed. Method expects two respecs, at 30 and 40. The free Lore Forever add-on shows zone and quest background while you level; it is fan-made.
What is not confirmed yet
- The beta stopped at level 30. Warcraft Tavern says level 60 builds will be added at launch, and Method says builds past level 30 will be updated as information appears.
- Method's page plans through level 60 and describes Penance based on BlizzCon playtests, so its respec timing is untested in the beta.
- Warcraft Tavern says it is too early to say how Forever's balance changes will work out at end game, and that Vampiric Touch is missing from the known spell list.
- Mobalytics assumes you get a wand from early quests, and says its page is being updated.
- Warcraft Tavern's pages do not rank the three Priest builds or say which is best for solo play versus dungeons.
