How to Sit in WoW Forever and Fix "Sit Near the Campfire"
To sit in World of Warcraft: Forever (WoW Forever), press X or type /sit; if the "sit near the campfire" objective of the quest The Great Outdoors does not count, players report that typing /sit a second time while already seated completes it. PC Gamer (November 5) gives X for sitting. As of November 5, 2026, I found no Blizzard staff reply to the bug.
Quick answer: Stand at the quest campfire, press X, then type /sit. Stay for one full minute until the Welcoming Campfire buff finishes. If the objective still shows 0/1, try /sit once more, deselect any NPC, or abandon and re-accept the quest.

Key facts
- Sit key: X (PC Gamer, for WoW Forever)
- Chat command: /sit (Warcraft Wiki, modern WoW; wow.gg for camps)
- Campfire buff time: one minute sitting or crafting at the camp (Blizzard camping post, Warcraft Tavern, wow.gg)
- Buff name: Welcoming Campfire, 60-second countdown (PC Gamer)
- Status: "sit near the campfire" objective bugged for some players on November 5 (PC Gamer, Blizzard forums)
How do you sit in WoW Forever?
Press X, per PC Gamer's Forever quest guide, or type /sit in chat. Warcraft Wiki documents /sit for modern WoW and says the character must rise to enter combat; /stand is its listed way to stand up. A 2021 Burning Crusade Classic hotkey list also gives X for sit and stand. No Forever page I opened shows the sit key in the keybinding menu, so check Esc > Options for the exact name; see macros and keybinds.
How do you sit near the campfire for The Great Outdoors?
PC Gamer says to walk to the campfire, press X, wait 60 seconds while a buff called Welcoming Campfire counts down, and gain the buff when the timer reaches zero. Blizzard's camping post says players "sitting or crafting at a campsite for at least 1 minute will gain the benefits from other camp features." Warcraft Tavern says you can track the timer through the Welcoming Campfire effect and hover Camp Benefits to see what you got. Neither Blizzard nor Warcraft Tavern gives the distance beyond "nearby."
Why is "sit near the campfire" not counting?
On November 4 and 5 several Blizzard forum threads reported that the objective stayed 0/1 even though players received the campfire buff. PC Gamer and Seramate (which credits Wowhead) call it a bug. Reported fixes, from most to least confirmed:
- Sit, then type /sit again while still sitting: the most widely confirmed fix in the forum threads, and what Seramate and Guided News describe; PC Gamer says X first, then /sit.
- Use typed /sit rather than the hotkey, then wait out the buff, said one player.
- Deselect any targeted NPC before sitting: mixed results.
- Abandon and re-accept the quest, then sit again: mixed.
- Keep sitting the full minute: Seramate says the second objective is the Boosted Rest buff.
None of this is an official Blizzard instruction.
Did this happen in the beta too?
Players reported something similar. A September 25 beta thread, "Campfire Bugged," said the timer reached zero without the buff; one reply needed five or more tries, and another player sat about ten minutes. Blizzard staff did not reply. Our camping guide covers the system and rested XP and inns the other places to rest.
What is not confirmed yet
- Whether Blizzard has acknowledged or hotfixed the objective; no staff post in the threads I opened.
- Any health or mana regeneration benefit from sitting in Forever: no source I opened states one.
Can the Lore Forever add-on or Willo help?
If a quest step confuses you, ask Willo, a separate companion app (Windows 10 or 11, with an Apple Silicon Mac download for macOS 12 or later on her page), out loud what to do next. She is free to start with 50 answers a day, can be wrong and is not official, so trust the quest tracker. The free Lore Forever add-on tells the story behind your quests; see the first hour guide. Both are fan-made, not affiliated with Blizzard.
