How to Make Friends in WoW Forever: Guilds, Campfires, Familiar Faces and Groups
You make friends in World of Warcraft: Forever (WoW Forever) by sharing the road with the same players: through a friendly guild, a campfire, or a dungeon group on your own ruleset and faction. Blizzard says Horde and Alliance cannot group and that groups form only within one ruleset, so the first step is to choose both before you meet anyone.
Quick answer: Choose your ruleset and faction, then join a guild that welcomes new players, sit at a campfire for a minute or more, and tell any dungeon group you are new. Blizzard's Familiar Faces system is meant to keep meeting the same people, but how well it works is not yet confirmed.

Key facts
- Who you can group with: players on the same ruleset and the same faction (Blizzard, "Choose Your Ruleset")
- Familiar Faces goal: match you with players you have met before and keep guildmates visible to each other (Warcraft Tavern, September 16, 2026)
- Campfires: a Basic Campfire makes a campsite nearby players can use, and benefits need sitting or crafting there for at least 1 minute (Blizzard camping post)
- Guild advice: a friendly guild before an elite one, according to GamerBlurb's beginner guide
How do you make friends in WoW Forever as a new player?
Start by choosing the people you can actually meet. Blizzard's ruleset news says players can group, run dungeons and raid only with others on the same ruleset, and that Horde and Alliance still cannot group together. Our rulesets guide and mega-realms explainer cover the choice.
Then do things where other players already are. Gfinity's beta report, published October 7, 2026, says the starting areas were filled with people doing the same things, including the same low-level quests. BoostRoom's beginner guide (BoostRoom is a marketplace whose site lists boosting services) says Forever is built around social encounters and that Blizzard has emphasized meeting players while questing, gathering, traveling and camping.
Does joining a guild help you meet people?
A guild gives you the same faces night after night. GamerBlurb's beginner guide, dated September 18, advises new players to prefer a friendly guild over an elite one and not to judge a guild only by its progression. It adds that the game feels different once you recognize people.
iTechGuides, in an October 19, 2026 guide, suggests looking for guild listings that state ruleset, faction, language, play hours and attitude toward new players. Our guilds guide covers charters and what is unconfirmed.
What do campfires and Familiar Faces do for meeting people?
Blizzard's camping post describes the campfire as a place where players can rest, prepare and connect. A cook's Basic Campfire supports up to three crafted camp features, each player adding one, and the Faction Banner benefits members of your faction sitting nearby. On a PvP ruleset, Blizzard says the risk increases when enemy players find your camp. See our camping guide.
Familiar Faces is the system for keeping community in a realmless world. Blizzard's Deep Dive recap says the goal is for strangers to become familiar faces. Warcraft Tavern reports that the system aims to match you with players you have met before and ensure guildmates can always see each other. Details are in our Familiar Faces explainer.
How do you group with a stranger without it going wrong?
Be plain about where you stand. GamerBlurb suggests saying you are new and asking what you need to know before the pull, and notes that experienced players get frustrated when someone stays silent when asked and repeatedly causes the same problem. BoostRoom suggests inviting a struggling player to an elite quest, thanking someone who saves you from a bad pull, and considering adding a tank or healer who does well. To find groups, see looking for group and our dungeon group guide.
What older advice still applies?
Engadget's WoW Rookie column by Lisa Poisso, published April 29, 2010, is general World of Warcraft advice, not about Forever. It names joining a leveling guild as the best way to build friendships while leveling, greeting players doing the same quests in the local zone channel, and trading crafted goods with other players. Treat it as general advice, since Forever's social tools may differ.
What is not confirmed yet
- How well Familiar Faces matches people in live play is untested, and Warcraft Tavern says how it interacts with layer hopping is unclear.
- No source opened for this guide documents a Forever friends list, community or recruitment feature.
- Campfire details come from Blizzard's undated post, and the beta may differ from launch.
- Chat advice relies on a general guide; see the chat channels guide.
The free Lore Forever add-on adds readable zone and quest background while you wander the road.
