WoW Forever Gold vs Classic Gold: What Sources Say
Gold in World of Warcraft: Forever (WoW Forever) is earned the Classic way, from loot, quests, vendors and the Auction House, but sources describe three differences: no WoW Token or character boosts at launch, separate Auction Houses per ruleset, and pre-launch riding costs that match the original game's total. Forever launched on November 4, 2026, and I found no outlet reporting verified launch-week prices as of November 5.
Quick answer: Expect Classic-style gold with no Token to buy it. The level 40 riding skill and first mount cost about 100 gold in Method's pre-launch guide, as in original vanilla WoW. Everything about inflation and prices at levels 31 to 60 is still unknown.

Key facts
- No Token or boosts: "no plans" at launch, per a BlizzCon interview reported by Warcraft Tavern (September 14)
- Auction Houses: separate per ruleset at launch, with no trading between them (Gamerfuzion, November 1)
- Level 40: 100 gold for Apprentice Riding with your first mount (Method, October 21)
- Level 60: Journeyman Riding 1,000 gold, epic mounts 200 gold each (Method, October 21)
Is gold in WoW Forever the same as in Classic?
In the basics, yes. COGconnected (October 19) says Forever keeps Classic's slow, gear-driven structure and that its gold sinks (training, mounts, consumables, repairs) are based on Classic, not on published Forever costs. Blizzard's Starter Guide says vendors buy unwanted items and tells you to "save coin for training, bags, and travel." See how to make gold.
Is there a WoW Token or character boost?
Not at launch. Warcraft Tavern reports official confirmation of "no plans" for either, with the caveat that this may change. COGconnected calls the missing Token "the structural point": no official exchange between real money and gold. Ten Ton Hammer (October 1) says the Token was datamined on Anniversary realms but not activated. See Token and boosts and gold buying rules.
How do mount costs compare?
Warcraft Wiki says original vanilla WoW, before patch 1.12.1, had riding for 20 gold at level 40 and mounts for 80 gold. Method's October 21 guide gives Forever 100 gold for Apprentice Riding including the first mount, so the level 40 total matches. Kami Labs says the mount's entry cost moves into the training cost, as in Burning Crusade. Honored reputation takes 10% off, and the Bartering Legacy talent takes up to 10% off mounts. I did not check current Classic Era costs. See mounts.
How does the Auction House differ?
Classic realms each had their own Auction House. Forever has rulesets, and Gamerfuzion, relaying a Blizzard podcast through PCGamesN, says the team kept Auction Houses and trade separate between them, though Gamerfuzion adds that linking them is "a lever they can pull if needed," with no plan announced. Gfinity (September 24) called the Auction House "global," which conflicts with that later report. See the Auction House and rulesets.
Will gold inflate like Classic?
Nobody knows. A TimeSaver post (October 15), written by a boosting-services seller, argues that bot bans and gold sinks should slow inflation. It hedges that nobody can promise a server economy's trajectory, so treat it as a forecast. PC Games reports that Blizzard community manager Kaivax wrote that gold buyers will be punished. Ten Ton Hammer calls its own predictions "inference from the announced structure, not confirmed mechanics."
What is not confirmed yet
- Inflation, and how much gold levels 31 to 60 pay: the beta ended at level 30.
- Launch-week Auction House prices, and whether Blizzard links the markets.
- Final riding costs and the dual specialization price (not announced as of October 31).
- Whether the Token or boosts arrive later.
How can the Lore Forever add-on and Willo help with this?
The Lore Forever add-on is free, fan-made and not affiliated with Blizzard, and it has no internet access. Its item tooltips say when a quest you can still do wants the item, so you do not sell it by mistake. Willo is a separate companion app with a Windows 10 or 11 download and an Apple Silicon Mac download (macOS 12 or later); her page and the Lore Forever FAQ list both, though CurseForge still calls her a Windows app. She keeps a to-do notebook per character on every plan, is free to start with 50 answers a day, and can be wrong.
