WoW Forever Mounts: Level 40 Riding, Costs, Trainers and Free Class Mounts
In World of Warcraft: Forever (WoW Forever) you learn Apprentice Riding at level 40 for 100 gold, which Method says includes your first mount and a 60 percent speed boost, and Journeyman Riding at level 60 for 1,000 gold, with 200-gold epic mounts that are 100 percent faster. There are no flying mounts in the game, so travel on the ground and by flight path.
Quick answer: Save about 100 gold before level 40 and visit your own race's Riding trainer. Paladins and Warlocks earn a free level 40 mount through a class quest. Honored reputation with your home faction cuts riding and mount prices by 10 percent. Details as of October 25, 2026, from beta guides.
Somewhere around the fortieth milestone, the walking stops. Every long road you crossed on foot, every boat dock and mountain pass, suddenly shrinks, and the first thing you buy with the gold you hoarded is not a sword but a saddle.
Key facts
- Apprentice Riding: level 40, 100 gold, 60% speed; Method says your first mount in one color is included, while Warcraft Tavern's table lists a separate 20 gold for the mount (Method; Warcraft Tavern)

- Extra colors: 20 gold each for the basic mount, per Method; the same 20-gold figure appears in Warcraft Tavern's table as the Apprentice mount price
- Discounts: 10% off riding and your race's mounts at Honored with your home faction (Method; Warcraft Tavern); Bartering Legacy gives up to 10% off mounts, not riding (Method)
- Class mounts: Paladins and Warlocks get a free level 40 mount by quest (Method)
- Other races' mounts: require Exalted reputation with that race (Warcraft Tavern; Method)
- Flying: none outside flight points (Method)
When do you get your first mount in WoW Forever?
Your first mount arrives at level 40, bought together with Apprentice Riding from your own race's Riding trainer. Warcraft Tavern and Method agree on 100 gold for the skill and a mount that raises movement speed by 60 percent. Method says the first mount is included in that price, while Warcraft Tavern's table lists the mount at 20 gold, so confirm at the trainer. MeinMMO suggests budgeting about 100 gold and skipping little-used trainer skills while you level, which is the same sum.
Until then you travel on foot, by flight path, by boat and by zeppelin; MeinMMO notes that only Druids and Shamans have a travel form before level 40. Warcraft Tavern adds that Forever has one universal Riding skill, unlike Classic. The travel guide covers the routes you will use in the meantime.
How much do riding and mounts cost?
Apprentice Riding costs 100 gold. Journeyman Riding costs 1,000 gold and needs level 60, and its epic mounts cost 200 gold each for a 100 percent speed bonus, according to Method and Warcraft Tavern. Method says extra colors of the basic mount cost 20 gold each.
Reputation helps. Both guides say Honored with your home faction gives 10 percent off riding and mounts, and Warcraft Tavern's Night Elf page lists 5, 10, 15 and 20 percent at Friendly, Honored, Revered and Exalted. Method adds that the Bartering Legacy talent gives up to 10 percent off mounts but not riding, and that the two discounts stack for up to 20 percent off mounts, though not off the Riding skill itself. For the gold itself, see WoW Forever gold making and gold farming.
Where do you learn to ride, race by race?
Each race trains riding at home. Method and Warcraft Tavern agree on these trainers:
- Human: Randal Hunter in Elwynn Forest; the Black Stallion comes from Unger Statforth in Menethil Harbor, Wetlands
- Night Elf: Jartsam and mount vendor Lelanai in Darnassus, at the Cenarion Enclave
- Dwarf: Ultham Ironhorn at Amberstill Ranch, Dun Morogh
- Gnome: Binjy Featherwhistle at Steelgrill's Depot, Dun Morogh
- Orc: Kildar in Orgrimmar
- Troll: Xar'Ti in Durotar, with the vendor Zjolnir in Sen'jin Village
- Tauren: Kar Stormsinger at Bloodhoof Village, Mulgore
- Undead: Velma Warnam in Brill, Tirisfal Glades
- Skyborne (both factions): Genn Fairweather at Fairweather Stables on Zephras Isle
Method reports that other races' vendors refuse to sell to you without Exalted reputation, so you must return to your home area. Warcraft Tavern says learning another race's riding also needs Exalted. See Darnassus and Zephras Isle for two of these trainer towns.
Which classes get a free mount?
Paladins and Warlocks. Method reports that Alliance Paladins receive a mount from a level 40 quest, The Tome of Nobility, started in the Mystic Ward in Ironforge or the Cathedral of Light in Stormwind. Warlocks of both factions get a free mount from Strahad Farsan in Ratchet through a level 40 quest. Warcraft Tavern says that Paladins and Warlocks get their mounts through class quests, and that Forsaken Paladins will get their own mount quests.
Both classes also have level 60 epic mount questlines, which Method says need reagents costing hundreds of gold. The quest for Horde Paladins had not been tested in the beta, according to Method. Class details are in the Paladin and Warlock guides.
What is not confirmed yet?
- Level 40 and 60 in practice: the beta ended at level 30, so every riding price and requirement above comes from data and previews, and Blizzard may change them.
- The Horde Paladin mount quest was not yet tested in the beta (Method).
- The Apprentice mount price: Method includes the first mount in the 100 gold; Warcraft Tavern lists it at 20 gold.
- Store mounts: Method lists two at launch, the Veteran Adventurer's Loyal Companion (Skyborne Epic Pack and Warcraft Forever Collection) and the Cerulean Prideclaw (also in the Skyborne Heroic Pack); it says datamines list the Prideclaw as level 60, so its level 40 use is unconfirmed. Store mounts still require Riding skill.
- Mount Hyjal, Riverglades and other new zones may add mounts or vendors that no guide has listed.
The free Lore Forever add-on adds readable background to the towns on this list as you reach them; it is fan-made.
