Kolkar Centaur in WoW Forever: Clan Lore and Kolkar Crag

The Kolkar are the centaur clan with oases in the Barrens, a village in eastern Desolace and, in the original game, the raiding base of Kolkar Crag in Durotar. In World of Warcraft: Forever (WoW Forever), Warcraft Wiki says Kolkar Crag and Warlord Kolkanis remain, and Warcraft Tavern says the new zone Shen'dralas seems to continue the clan's story.

Quick answer: Warcraft Wiki says the Kolkar are one of the centaur clans native to Desolace, named for their first khan, Kolk, and at war with the Horde, the Alliance and other centaur. In the original game their three bases were the Barrens, Desolace and Durotar.

The Kolkar in four places: the Barrens, where they have a presence at three oases; Desolace, where Kolkar Village stands; Durotar, where Warlord Kolkanis leads the raiders of Kolkar Crag; and Shen'dralas, the new Forever zone that Warcraft Tavern says seems to continue their story.

The road out of a starting valley is rarely empty. Past the first hill, a banner or a hoofprint tells a new adventurer that the land has an older claim on it.

Warcraft Wiki's Kolkar page counts five centaur clans native to Desolace, while its Desolace (Classic) page says both five and four, and calls the Kolkar the smallest and least influential.

Why do the Kolkar fight the tauren and the Horde?

Warcraft Wiki and Wowpedia say that before the Third War the Barrens Kolkar were the main obstacle to tauren nomads trying to reclaim Mulgore. Warcraft Wiki's Barrens page says the centaur hunted the tauren for sport. Wowpedia's text for the level 32 quest The Kolkar of Desolace, which ends at Ghost Walker Post, says that while the centaur are strong in Desolace, "they will always pose a threat." Read the Barrens, Mulgore and Cairne Bloodhoof's story.

What is Kolkar Crag and who is Warlord Kolkanis?

Warcraft Wiki places Kolkar Crag in southern Durotar, led by Warlord Kolkanis. Its Kolkar Crag page lists the Valley of Trials, Sen'jin Village, Razor Hill and Orgrimmar as targets of planned attacks in the original game, and says the crag and Kolkanis remain in Classic and Forever. Wowpedia describes a level 8 quest, Thwarting Kolkar Aggression, from Lar Prowltusk outside Sen'jin Village to destroy three sets of attack plans; Warcraft Wiki's Lar Prowltusk page says that quest never left the beta. See Durotar.

Does Shen'dralas continue the Kolkar story?

Warcraft Tavern's September 13, 2026 zone report says Shen'dralas, hidden between Desolace and Mulgore, "seems to continue the stories of the Kolkar, Gelkis, and Magram centaurs", with ties to Dire Maul and Prince Tortheldrin. Warcraft Wiki's Shen'dralas page names the Magram clan but not the Kolkar,. See the Shen'dralas guide and Maraudon.

What is not confirmed yet

  • Warcraft Wiki and Wowpedia disagree on whether the Lar Prowltusk quest left the beta, and no source I opened confirms it in Forever.
  • No source I opened lists which Kolkar quests exist in Forever. Warcraft Wiki lists Desolace as changed.
  • The Kolkar link to Shen'dralas rests on one Warcraft Tavern report, which hedges its wording.
  • Wowpedia marks its Barrens and Desolace settlement details as out of date.

How can the Lore Forever add-on and Willo help you follow the centaur?

On the road from the Valley of Trials to Sen'jin Village, the free Lore Forever add-on gives NPCs and mobs a one-line story in their tooltips, and a Lore button on quests opens each quest's story. It covers every zone and dungeon up to level 30, with place lore for the rest of the world. Willo is a separate Windows companion app: hold your talk key, ask who the Kolkar are, and hear the answer. She is free to start with 50 answers a day, works without the add-on, and can be wrong. Lore Forever is fan-made and not affiliated with Blizzard.
