Darkspear Trolls in WoW Forever: Vol'jin's Tribe Explained
The Darkspear trolls are the jungle-troll tribe, led by Vol'jin, that joined Thrall's Horde and, driven from the Echo Isles by the traitor Zalazane, founded Sen'jin Village on the Durotar coast. In World of Warcraft: Forever (WoW Forever), trolls start in Durotar's Valley of Trials, can play a Warlock (new since Classic, says Warcraft Tavern), and a new battleground is set on the Darkspear Islands.
Quick answer: Warcraft Wiki traces the Darkspear to the Gurubashi Empire in Stranglethorn Vale. They followed Thrall to Kalimdor after Vol'jin's father Sen'jin was sacrificed. Zalazane later enslaved many of them, and Vol'jin led the free trolls to a new village named for his father.

Some tribes are remembered for a war, others for where they chose to stand. The Darkspear chose the Horde.

Where do the Darkspear trolls come from?
Warcraft Wiki and Wowpedia say the Darkspear were once part of the Gurubashi Empire and, being "smaller than the rest", suffered when it split; Wowpedia adds centuries of famine and war in Stranglethorn Vale. They settled the Darkspear Islands and fought murlocs and then Kul Tiras humans. Thrall and his freed orcs arrived in a storm, and a Sea Witch captured Thrall and the Darkspear leader Sen'jin, who was sacrificed after foreseeing Thrall leading the trolls from the island. Under Vol'jin the tribe swore to Thrall's Horde and sailed to Kalimdor, where, Warcraft Tavern says, Thrall had convinced them to go. Read Thrall's story and Kul Tiras.
Why did the Darkspear leave the Echo Isles for Sen'jin Village?
Warcraft Wiki says the Darkspear settled the Echo Isles, retreated to Dustwallow Marsh when Admiral Proudmoore's fleet returned, and helped the Horde defeat him at Theramore. Then Zalazane used dark magic to enslave many of them. Vol'jin evacuated the free trolls, and they founded Sen'jin Village on the nearby shore, named for Sen'jin. Wowhead's text for the level 9 Durotar quest Minshina's Skull says "Minshina's spirit was trapped within his own skull by Zalazane's magics." ForeverChanges lists Sen'jin Village (level 6) and the Echo Isles (level 7) among Forever's Durotar places. See Theramore.
Where do you meet the Darkspear in WoW Forever?
Warcraft Tavern's troll page says trolls start in the Valley of Trials alongside orcs, the first raptor mount is bought from Zjolnir in Sen'jin Village, and Darkspear reputation cuts mount and riding costs by up to 20 percent at Exalted. Method lists the Troll Warlock as an addition to the Classic classes. Blizzard's Darkspear Islands post pits the Darkspear Raiders, based at Merchant Coast, against the Theramore Expeditionary Force. See Durotar, Battlegrounds and Best Race for Warlock.
What is not confirmed yet
- Zalazane's title differs: Warcraft Wiki says he became a witch doctor, while the quest text, AllThings.how and its Echo Isles page say warlock.
- Sen'jin's death differs: Warcraft Wiki's tribe page says sacrificed to the Sea Witch, its Darkspear Islands page says mortally wounded.
- Blizzard places the battleground off Dustwallow Marsh; Warcraft Wiki puts the tribe's island home in the South Seas. No source I opened says whether they are the same.
- No source I opened shows how Forever's quests change the Darkspear story.
How can the Lore Forever add-on and Willo help you follow the Darkspear?
Walk out of the Valley of Trials with the free Lore Forever add-on and a Lore button on each quest opens that quest's story, while hovering an NPC and pressing your key opens their entry. Its Journey page lists the quests you have completed, grouped by zone, and its stories drop later-expansion lore. Willo is a separate Windows companion app: hold your talk key, ask who Zalazane was, hear the answer, and keep per-character to-dos in her notebook. She is free to start with 50 answers a day, works without the add-on, and can be wrong. Lore Forever is fan-made and not affiliated with Blizzard.
