Desolace

The story

Desolace is a bleak, windswept desert on Kalimdor's western coast, defined by cracked gray earth, constant stormy skies, and the bones of fallen beasts. It is the ancestral cradle of the vicious centaur race and a contested wasteland scarred by ancient Highborne ruins, encroaching demonic cults, and bitter tribal warfare. Both the Horde and Alliance maintain precarious footholds amidst the dust, each seeking to carve out influence while warding off spreading corruption.

Desolace was not always a barren expanse of ash and yellowed pools. Over a millennium ago, it was Mashan'she—a lush meadowland tended by tauren shaman. That paradise unraveled when the earth elemental Princess Theradras awakened from beneath the soil, draining the surrounding life force to regenerate her form. The calamity summoned Zaetar, son of Cenarius, but rather than subduing her, he took the princess as his mate. From their unnatural union sprang the first centaur. In shame and bloodthirsty wrath, the newborn race murdered their father, overran the verdant plains, and drove the tauren away, leaving behind the scarred wasteland known today.
