The Great Outdoors Quest Bugged in WoW Forever: The Fix

The Great Outdoors is a level 6 camping tutorial quest in World of Warcraft: Forever (WoW Forever) that gives 410 experience, and if its "Sit near the campfire" objective will not count, Wowhead says to type /sit while you are already sitting. Blizzard's November 5 hotfix list and Wowhead's copy of Blizzard's known-issues post, both read November 6, 2026, do not mention a fix.

Quick answer: Go to your starter-area camp, sit, wait one full minute for the Boosted Rest buff, and if the first objective stays 0/1 type /sit again while seated. Forum players add: use the typed command, and untarget NPCs.

The Great Outdoors quest in WoW Forever: level 6, requires level 4, 410 experience, two objectives (sit near the campfire, gain the Boosted Rest buff), and the sit-then-sit-again workaround reported by Wowhead and forum players.
Quest facts from Wowhead's Forever database and news, workarounds from Wowhead and Blizzard forum players, November 6, 2026. Not an official Blizzard fix.

Key facts

  • Level: 6, requires level 4; 410 experience (Wowhead quest page)
  • Objectives: sit near the campfire; gain the Boosted Rest buff (Wowhead)
  • Versions: Wowhead lists several, split by race and faction; the four I opened were added in patch 1.60.1
  • Workaround: /sit while already /sitting (Wowhead news, November 4)
  • Official status: no fix seen in Blizzard's November 5 hotfixes

What does The Great Outdoors ask you to do?

Wowhead says it is the camping tutorial. Its quest text for the Elwynn Forest version, given by Sam Sarsaparilla to Night Elves and Gnomes, reads "Sit near Sam's Basic Campfire and wait until you receive the Boosted Rest buff." The Wowhead pages I opened for other versions show different givers and zones: Kaga Wildhoof in Mulgore (Tauren), Brakk in Durotar, and Raan Wildwind on Zephras Isle for High Order Skyborne. Your race decides which one you get. See camping for the system.

Why will "sit near the campfire" not complete?

Wowhead News (November 4) calls the objective "a little bugged": it does not trigger normally when you use /sit. Wowhead says the buff itself arrives after a full minute as a small Rested XP buff. Blizzard forum players reported sitting by the fire for five minutes, getting the buff, and still seeing 0/1.

How do I fix it?

Try these in order. Only the first is from Wowhead; the rest are forum players, with mixed results:

  1. Stand at your camp, sit, then type /sit again while still seated. Wowhead says this completes the objective.
  2. Type /sit in chat rather than using a hotkey; one player says the hotkey does not work.
  3. Make sure no NPC is targeted when you sit, a player suggested; another said targeting made no difference.
  4. Abandon and re-take the quest. One player said repeating this and spamming sit eventually worked, while the partner never got credit.
  5. Wait the full minute so the Boosted Rest objective also finishes.

The sit command and key are covered in how to sit near a campfire.

Is Blizzard fixing it?

I found no Blizzard staff reply in the forum threads I opened (including "Great Outdoors quest bugged"). Blizzard's November 5 hotfix page lists other quest fixes, such as text in "The Sisterhood of Elune", but not this quest. Blizzard's Forever Common Issues support page, read November 6, lists "No issues currently being tracked" under Quests. One Wowhead commenter wrote on November 5 that the quest log now shows the sit objective as optional; I could not confirm that. Blizzard has acknowledged other quest problems on Wowhead quest pages, such as escort quests failing; for stuck quests in general see quest bugged or stuck fix.

What is not confirmed yet

  • Cause: nobody has published why the objective fails.
  • Which workaround works: the second /sit is the best-supported; the others are single anecdotes.
  • Whether it is fixed: this article was checked on November 6; a later hotfix may change it.
  • Other versions: I did not test the bug on every race's version.

Can the Lore Forever add-on or Willo help?

They cannot complete the objective for you. The free Lore Forever add-on puts a Lore button on quests, and it has no internet access. Willo is a separate companion app for Windows 10 or 11 and Apple Silicon Macs (macOS 12 or later), per her page; her FAQ and the Lore Forever FAQ say Windows and Mac, though CurseForge still calls her a Windows app. Ask her out loud what a quest wants; she is free to start with 50 answers a day, can be wrong and is not official, and in-game text is the source of truth. Both are fan-made, not affiliated with Blizzard. Related: quests and the quest log.
