WoW Forever Quest Log Guide: Limit, Tracking, Sharing and Colors
The quest log in World of Warcraft: Forever (WoW Forever) held 40 quests in the beta, double the 20 of the original game, according to Bolverk Games, Digital Citizen and Dork Magazine. Blizzard has not published that number in a patch note we could find, and the limit at launch on November 4, 2026 is not confirmed.
Quick answer: Plan for a log of up to 40 quests, but treat the number as a beta report. Pick up quests in batches by area, track them with Shift-click, share them with your party from the log, and abandon one only when you must, because its progress resets. Grey, green, yellow, orange and red tell you how hard a quest is for your level.

Every road in Azeroth begins with someone who needs something. The quest log is the satchel where those favors wait, and its size decides how many you can carry before you must choose which to set down.
Key facts

- Tracking: Shift-click a quest to show its goals under the minimap, added in patch 1.3.0 (Warcraft Wiki).

How many quests can you carry in WoW Forever?
The satchel grew in the beta. Warcraft Wiki says the original release of World of Warcraft had a limit of 20 quests, and Bolverk Games says Classic Era still uses 20. Digital Citizen (September 22, 2026) says Blizzard is raising the journal limit from 20 to 40, and Dork Magazine cites PC Gamer as reporting the same increase. Bolverk Games says the change was spotted in the client and confirmed by testers, that PC Gamer also confirmed the figure in the client, and that its sources do not mention a Blizzard patch note announcing it. One Blizzard note does fit a larger log: the October 8 beta development notes fixed a bug that stopped escort quests from starting when the log contained 25 or more quests. Blizzard has not said whether 40 will carry over to launch.
How do quests work in WoW Forever?
Most start with a person asking for help. Warcraft Wiki's general Quest page, which is not specific to Forever, describes the forms: kill creatures, gather items, deliver an item, escort an NPC, find and speak to someone, and chains where finishing one quest opens the next. A quest marked for groups recommends more than one player. Mein-MMO's beginner guide (October 21, 2026) says to follow that recommendation, because the open world has elite enemies and nothing scales to your level. It also says dungeons yield the most experience when you complete as many of their quests as possible in one visit. The dungeons overview lists them.
What do the quest colors mean?
Colors tell you how the road will treat you. Warcraft Tavern's experience guide says grey quests are five or more levels below you, green three or four below, yellow within two levels, orange three or four above and red five or more above. It adds that quests more than five levels below you pay 10 to 20% less for each extra level. Mein-MMO warns that orange and red quests can become dangerous quickly and advises beginners to stay with green and yellow. The leveling tips guide has the rest of the experience numbers.
How do you track, share and abandon quests?
Warcraft Wiki's Quest log page says Shift-clicking a quest shows its goals on the main screen under the minimap, a feature from patch 1.3.0. Its Quest page says to share a quest, select it in the log and click Share Quest, and nearby party members are prompted. Players who are the wrong class or level, lack a prerequisite, already have the quest or have a full log cannot accept it, and some quests cannot be shared at all. To abandon a quest, use Abandon Quest in the log. The wiki says there is no penalty, but you must find the quest giver again, special quest items are destroyed and kill counters reset to 0. Those pages describe the game generally, so check them in game.
Should you hoard completed quests?
Some testers did. Bolverk Games says the 40-slot log let beta players keep completed quests unturned-in and claim the experience when the level cap rose. Dork Magazine calls it "optional planning rather than a requirement" and notes that the extra slots also help you avoid abandoning a dungeon run or zone storyline partway through. Bolverk Games says all beta progress is wiped before launch, so none of it carries over. The first 10 levels checklist and the leveling 10 to 30 guide show where quests cluster early. The free Lore Forever add-on shows readable background for the quest you are on. It is fan-made and does not change the log.
What is not confirmed yet
- Launch limit: No Blizzard source we found states the quest log size for launch. The 40 figure comes from the beta and secondary reports.
- Source conflict: Digital Citizen says Blizzard is raising the limit from 20 to 40, while Bolverk Games found no patch note. Blizzard's October 8 note only mentions a log of 25 or more.
- General pages: Warcraft Wiki's quest pages describe the game generally, so some details may differ in Forever.
- Beta data: The beta ended with a level 30 cap and launch is November 4, 2026.
