Survival is the Hunter specialization that WoW Forever turns into a melee-focused spec, using melee strikes and traps alongside ranged shots, and the guides disagree on how much you still shoot. What is Survival Hunter in WoW Forever?
Warcraft Tavern says Survival was mostly considered a PvP spec in the Classic era, and that Forever develops it into a melee-focused playstyle. It lists new Survival talents named Predator's Edge, Resourcefulness, Survivalist's Discipline and Strider Kick, and says Expose Prey replaces Killer Instinct and Lacerating Strikes replaces Wyvern Sting. Mobalytics lists Raptor Strike, Mongoose Bite, Strider Kick and two fire traps in its rotation.
Is it a melee spec or a weaving spec?
The sources conflict. Icy Veins says Hunters "no longer need to worry about weaving" and fully specialise in melee or ranged, yet its own rotation sends a Survival Hunter to melee after a ranged opener and adds ranged shots when melee is impractical. Mobalytics calls the ideal "a hybrid range / melee playstyle" known as weaving. Warcraft Tavern says Survival weaves melee abilities and traps between ranged shots. Treat "weaving" as the working description and the exact balance as unsettled.
Is Survival good for leveling?
Icy Veins says it is the weakest Hunter leveling spec on the way to 60, especially for the first 40 levels, because the first 20 points in the tree are weak and melee needs most of the later talents. Its level 30 melee build needs Savage Strikes, five points in Predator's Edge and Strider Kick. It points leveling players to Beast Mastery or Marksmanship. Warcraft Tavern calls Beast Mastery a natural choice for open-world leveling.
Is Survival good for raids and dungeons?
