WoW Forever Ruleset Temporarily Unavailable: What to Do
"This ruleset is temporarily unavailable" is a message on the ruleset screen of World of Warcraft: Forever (WoW Forever) when the game cannot offer you a ruleset right now; at launch on November 4, 2026, many players found all four rulesets greyed out after the queue, and the fix they report is to log out, log back in and queue again. Blizzard lists the message among common problems in its name reservation article but, in the text I could read, gives no explanation. As of November 5, 2026.
Quick answer: Cancel, log out, rejoin the queue and check the ruleset screen again; players disagree on whether waiting or retrying helps. Normal, PvP, Roleplay and Roleplay-PvP are the four rulesets on offer; Hardcore comes after launch (Blizzard).

Key facts
- Message: "This ruleset is temporarily unavailable" (Blizzard Support list of common problems)
- Rulesets at launch: Normal, PvP, Roleplay, Roleplay PvP; Hardcore after launch (Blizzard, October 22)
- Launch-night thread: "Rulesets all unavailable?" opened 23:03 UTC on November 4, 115 posts, no staff reply (Blizzard US forums)
- Reported fix: log out, log in, requeue; sometimes several tries (players, same thread)
- Blizzard cause or ETA: none found in the sources I opened
What does "This ruleset is temporarily unavailable" mean?
Blizzard Support's "How to Reserve a Character Name in WoW: Forever" page lists the message among its common problems, next to the faction and "throttled" messages. The visible text gives no explanation, so Blizzard's meaning is unconfirmed. My reading: the game cannot place you in that ruleset right now. Blizzard's October 22 post says rulesets replace realm selection; see rulesets and realms and regions.
Why were all four rulesets greyed out at launch?
In the "Rulesets all unavailable?" thread, players who got through the queue at 23:03 UTC on November 4 reported every ruleset unavailable and the Select button grey. One poster says to keep retrying because the buttons light up in waves as capacity grows; another says a second try worked after a queue of 1,240; another says a relog fixed a bugged first login; others relogged and met the grey screen again. I read all 115 posts in the thread and found no Blizzard staff reply.
How do I get past it?
- Decide whether to wait. One poster says to sit and wait for servers to come up; TimeSaver relays another who says the screen checks once when you leave the queue, so waiting does nothing. These conflict.
- Log out of the game, log back in and queue again; players report needing more than one try.
- Restart the Battle.net app and install any update it offers; TimeSaver relays a player who did this for the related "no realms available" message, a different error.
- If another message appears instead, see launch day queues and errors and name reservation errors.
Did it happen before launch too?
Yes. TimeSaver says players hit it during early name reservation when rulesets were not open yet (it says the EU opening was delayed on October 27), with a Russian client language, or with a Battle.net account in another region, and relays a Blizzard EU representative saying the Russian-client problem was patched. That is second-hand. Kami Labs reports "no ruleset is available" wording from the October 21 stress test.
What if the rulesets look available but do not click?
One thread, opened at 00:07 UTC on November 5, reports all four cards lit but unresponsive, with no error; the poster says they are on Bazzite Linux in North America. It is a single report with no fix.
What is not confirmed yet
- Blizzard's own explanation, cause or timeframe for the message.
- Whether the greyed screen is capacity, a bug or both; players disagree.
- Whether a relog is a fix or luck; it worked for some, not others.
How can the Lore Forever add-on and Willo help with this?
Once a ruleset opens, the free Lore Forever add-on tells the story behind each quest and zone, and Willo answers "which ruleset should I pick?" by voice, free to start with 50 answers a day. Willo is a separate companion app: her page lists a Windows 10 or 11 download and an Apple Silicon Mac download (macOS 12 or later), and the Lore Forever FAQ says Windows and Mac, though CurseForge still calls her a Windows app. She can be wrong; check which ruleset to pick. Both are fan-made and not affiliated with Blizzard.
