WoW Forever Profession Leveling 1-300: Ranks and Guides
Leveling a profession in WoW Forever means raising a skill from 1 to 300 through four ranks (Apprentice, Journeyman, Expert, Artisan), and each rank needs both enough skill and a high enough character level. Icy Veins' profession guide (last updated November 3, 2026) lists the numbers, and Wowhead publishes leveling guides for the crafting professions, Cooking and First Aid, with written overviews for the gatherers, as of November 6, 2026.
Quick answer: Skill caps are 75, 150, 225 and 300. Learn the next rank as soon as it opens, craft or gather things shown in orange or yellow, and use Wowhead's Profession Leveling Guides for the exact route. Gathering ranks unlock at lower character levels than crafting ranks, per Icy Veins.

- Maximum skill: 300 (Warcraft Tavern; Icy Veins)
- Ranks and caps: Apprentice 75, Journeyman 150, Expert 225, Artisan 300 (Icy Veins)
- Skill needed to train the next rank: 50, 125 and 200 (Icy Veins)
- Character level for crafting ranks: 10, 20 and 35; for gathering ranks: none, 10 and 25 (Icy Veins)

What are the profession ranks and how high can I level?
Per Icy Veins, Apprentice caps at skill 75 and needs nothing. Journeyman caps at 150 and needs skill 50, plus character level 10 for crafting (none for gathering). Expert caps at 225 and needs skill 125, plus level 20 for crafting or 10 for gathering. Artisan caps at 300 and needs skill 200, plus level 35 for crafting or 25 for gathering.
Warcraft Tavern's guide gives the same skill caps and skill requirements and lists one character level per rank (10, 20 and 35) without separating gathering from crafting. It also lists Apprentice crafting at character level 5, where Icy Veins lists none. Icy Veins says the gates stop a new character finishing a profession.
How do I actually gain skill points?
Icy Veins says making an item or gathering a material has a chance to raise skill, depending on how hard it is compared with your skill. Orange guarantees a point unless you are at your cap, yellow usually gives one, green gives them less often, and gray gives none. Learn the next rank when it opens, or you stall at the cap.
Warcraft Tavern says a starter quest can give you Mining, Skinning or Herbalism at 2 skill.
Where is the 1-300 leveling guide?
Wowhead's Profession Leveling Guides page covers Alchemy, Blacksmithing, Enchanting, Engineering, Leatherworking, Tailoring, Cooking and First Aid. For each it offers an "Easiest" plan worked out from your skill and recipes, with a shopping list, and a fixed "Tried & Tested in Forever" guide. Mining, Herbalism, Skinning and Fishing have written overviews only, not planners.
Wowhead News (Serenal) says you can import the shopping list in-game with Auctionator or TSM; I did not test it.
How do gathering professions level?
Wowhead's overviews (by Nodge, updated October 23 and 24) give zone ranges. For Mining they say smelting raises skill up to 185 and then only mining does, with copper veins in any starter zone for 1 to 65. Herbalism starts in any starter zone for 1 to 70. Neither covered 225 to 300.
What is not confirmed yet
- Pre-launch numbers: the Wowhead zone and smelting figures come from guides dated October 23 and 24, before launch.
- 225 to 300: the Mining, Herbalism and Skinning overviews I read gave no route for this range.
- Costs: TimeSaver said on October 2 that Blizzard had not published costs.
- Rank gates: Icy Veins and Warcraft Tavern agree on crafting levels 10, 20 and 35 but differ on Apprentice crafting (5 or none) and on gathering; I saw no Blizzard page listing them.
Can the Lore Forever add-on and Willo help with this?
The free Lore Forever add-on shows quest stories while you level, and Willo can answer questions out loud, such as "what rank is next". She can be wrong and is not official, so Wowhead's guides and the in-game trainer text are the source of truth. Willo is free to start (50 answers a day) and is a separate companion app for Windows 10 or 11 and Apple Silicon Macs (macOS 12 or later), per her page; her FAQ and the Lore Forever FAQ say Windows and Mac, though CurseForge still calls her a Windows app. The add-on has no internet access and narrates with generated voices; both are fan-made and not affiliated with Blizzard.
