Lore Forever vs Spoken: Two WoW Forever Voice Add-ons
Spoken and Lore Forever are different add-ons for World of Warcraft: Forever (WoW Forever): Spoken, by rustykey, voices quest dialogue, NPC gossip, zone lore and books using separate voice packs, while Lore Forever, which is our own project, adds lore, tooltips and narrated stories and leaves quest dialogue optional. Lore Forever's FAQ says they run side by side.
Quick answer: If you want quest givers to speak, Spoken says that is its job. If you want the story behind a zone, NPC or dungeon read aloud, that is Lore Forever's. Lore Forever is ours, so weigh our description accordingly; no add-on is called better here.

Two travelers can walk the same road and tell it differently. One repeats what the innkeeper said; the other tells you why the inn was built.
Key facts
- Spoken: by rustykey; three modules (Quests, Zones, Books) that can each be turned off (CurseForge)
- Spoken voices: the page says all lines are pre-recorded, and each module needs its own voice pack or the add-on stays silent (CurseForge)
- Spoken versions: listed for WoW Forever, Classic and Classic TBC; last updated October 31, 2026 (CurseForge)
- Lore Forever: free, built for WoW Forever only; version 0.35.0 released November 1, 2026 (CurseForge; Lore Forever FAQ)
- Quest dialogue in Lore Forever: optional, off by default (Lore Forever FAQ)
What does Spoken do?
According to its CurseForge page, Spoken is "character-driven" voiceover with three modules. Spoken Quests voices quest dialogue and NPC gossip, Spoken Zones tells zone and area lore beside the world map, and Spoken Books reads books, letters, notes and plaques. The voices are generated by software to fit each character, with a pronunciation dictionary for names. The voices are not bundled: you install a pack for each module you want. The page lists nine interface languages, voice packs in several languages with coverage varying by module, an MIT license and roughly 382,500 downloads. It shows Donate and Buy Me a Coffee links.
What does Lore Forever do?
Per its CurseForge page and FAQ, Lore Forever is an offline in-game lore companion for WoW Forever only. It adds a one-line story in NPC and mob tooltips, a Lore button on quest windows, short dungeon briefings, and recorded narration for zones, cities, dungeons, bosses, places and people. Narrators are generated voices, with volunteer voices as extras; see narrator voices explained. Quest dialogue is a separate optional pack set that is off by default. The add-on is free and also on CurseForge, which shows roughly 135,700 downloads.
How do they differ?
Spoken's page puts voiced quest and gossip text, zone lore and books at the center, and it lists Classic versions too. Lore Forever puts explanation at the center: who a character is, why a place matters, what a dungeon is about, with spoiler-tagged sections. Lore Forever voices selected stories rather than every quest, per our quest voice add-ons guide. Setup also differs: Spoken needs packs per module, while Lore Forever's main download includes the male narrator.
Can you run both together?
Lore Forever's FAQ says Lore Forever and Willo work side by side with Spoken, and that Lore Forever steps aside for Spoken's quest voices. Its CurseForge page advises skipping Lore Forever's quest dialogue packs if Spoken or another add-on already speaks your quests. Spoken's page does not discuss compatibility, so the claim rests on our own FAQ. This article did not test both installed together.
Who is each for?
Spoken's page describes the player who wants characters, books and zone stories voiced. Lore Forever's pages describe the player who wants the story behind the world while playing; its coverage is every zone, city and dungeon up to level 30 plus place lore for the rest of the world. Spoken's page shows donate links; Lore Forever is free to download. See also the best add-ons list.
How can the Lore Forever add-on and Willo help with this?
The free Lore Forever add-on is our fan-made project and is not affiliated with Blizzard; the add-on guide lists what it covers. Willo is an optional companion app that answers out loud and can be wrong. Neither is needed to use Spoken.
What is not confirmed yet
- Voice quality and accuracy of either add-on: not tested here.
- Whether either add-on needs an update for the November 4 launch client.
- Spoken's behavior alongside Lore Forever in game.
