Dungeon Quests and XP in WoW Forever: Are Dungeons Worth It for Leveling?
In World of Warcraft: Forever (WoW Forever), dungeons are worth running for their quests rather than their kills: developers cut dungeon kill XP and raised dungeon quest XP, and PC Gamer reports the design aim is to run each dungeon once or twice, finish its quests and return to the open world. All figures below come from beta-era reports dated September 14 to October 8, 2026, and the developers said the exact numbers were still changing.
Quick answer: Pick up every quest that leads into a dungeon before you enter, finish as many as possible in one visit, and do not expect repeat runs to level you. Higher-level groupmates reduce your kill XP. Details as of October 28, 2026.

The sources below describe how the developers changed dungeon XP during the beta, in the order the changes were reported.
Key facts
- September 14, 2026: Kris Zierhut told The Sun that dungeon kill XP was brought way down and dungeon quest XP made much higher (Warcraft Tavern)
- October 2, 2026: the extra XP on dungeon quests was cut by 50 percent in the beta (PC Gamer)
- October 8, 2026: dungeon kill XP was going up by 20 percent in the beta, and a bug that based kill XP on the highest-level player was fixed (Warcraft Tavern)
- Design aim: run each dungeon once or twice to finish its quests, then leave (PC Gamer)
Are dungeons worth it for leveling in WoW Forever?
Yes, mainly for their quests. Warcraft Tavern's September 14, 2026 report, citing a Kris Zierhut interview with The Sun, says the team brought dungeon kill XP way down and made dungeon quest XP "much, much, much higher." Zierhut also said going back over and over again is not the best way to level. Warcraft Tavern adds that repeat runs for a specific drop would gain little level progress. How much XP do dungeon quests give?
PC Gamer, writing on October 2, 2026, says Blizzard cut the extra XP on dungeon quests by 50 percent in the beta, a reduction that applies only to the bonus, because base quest XP matches Classic. Its example is the Wailing Caverns quest Deviate Hides: 1,600 XP in Classic, about 4,650 in the beta before the cut and 3,100 after, which the writer, Harvey Randall, says is about 25 XP short of what he expected and suspects is rounding. The developers gave feedback on leveling speed as the reason, and Randall says dungeon quests are still very much worth doing. The Wailing Caverns guide covers that dungeon.
What happened to dungeon kill XP?
Warcraft Tavern reported on October 8, 2026 that kill XP in dungeons was going up by 20 percent in the beta, per developer Josh "Aggrend" Greenfield on Episode 3 of the WoW Forever Podcast. He also announced a fix for a bug that had based per-kill XP on the group's highest-level player, so XP now depends on each player's level against the monster. The developers said they were still working out the exact numbers, and Greenfield wrote on X that leveling rates in dungeons will be very close to, if not equal to, the speed of optimal questing.
How do you plan a dungeon run for the most XP?
MeinMMO says dungeons give the most XP when you finish as many quests as possible in one visit, and that a repeat run with few or no quests is not worth much. Warcraft Tavern's experience guide describes one-time quests that can be picked up in advance and completed inside a dungeon while you clear it, and BoostRoom advises, "Before entering a dungeon, check whether nearby quests lead inside it." MeinMMO recommends the DungeonJournal addon from CurseForge, which it says shows which quests are available for each dungeon and where to get them; no source opened confirms that the addon works with Forever. Also remember the group effect: Warcraft Tavern says much higher-level members significantly reduce kill XP, so group near your level. See the dungeon groups, dungeons overview and leveling 10 to 30 guides.
What is not confirmed yet?
- Numbers: the developers said they were still working out exact numbers, and values kept changing through the beta.
- One example: the 1,600, 4,650 and 3,100 figures describe a single quest, Deviate Hides, as reported by PC Gamer, and the 4,650 is approximate.
- Beta limits: Warcraft Tavern's beta guide says the beta cap stayed at level 30, so no source opened reports dungeon quest XP for levels 31 to 60.
- Not opened: an Icy Veins article on the dungeon XP changes would not load, so it is not used.
The free Lore Forever add-on adds readable zone and quest background while you play; it is fan-made.
