WoW Forever Dungeon Etiquette: Pulls, Marks, Need and Greed
Dungeon etiquette in World of Warcraft: Forever (WoW Forever) is mostly the old Classic-era manners: the tank usually pulls, healers and damage dealers wait for threat, the group kills the Skull mark first, and Warcraft Wiki describes agreeing loot rules before the run. Warcraft Tavern, mein-mmo and Warcraft Wiki describe these habits as of November 6, 2026; I found no Blizzard code of conduct.
Quick answer: Per the sources below: let the tank pull, hold your damage until they have threat, follow the marks, set loot rules before the run, and get the group's agreement before rolling Need.

See tanking your first dungeon and healing your first dungeon.
Key facts
- Pulling: the tank usually pulls to establish aggro (Warcraft Tavern dungeons guide)
- Threat: healers and damage dealers should hold back until the tank has built threat (mein-mmo, October 21, 2026)
- Marks: Skull dies first, Cross second (Warcraft Tavern)
- Loot: Need before Greed is Warcraft Wiki's described etiquette, not confirmed for Forever
Who pulls, and how many mobs?
Warcraft Tavern says the tank usually pulls packs. mein-mmo's beginner guide adds that healers and damage dealers should wait until the tank has built threat, and that everyone should hit the same target so the tank can hold it. Warcraft Wiki's etiquette page says not to train mobs or cause extra enemies to join a fight, though it flags its combat section as out of date and files the whole page under outdated articles.
How many mobs to pull is disputed. On November 6 a player started a Blizzard forum thread asking tanks to pull only the mobs the group needs, arguing that dungeon XP now comes from quests. Replies disagree: one says not every tank played the beta and knows the dungeons, another says time matters less in this version. That thread is player opinion, not Blizzard's position. Warcraft Tavern quotes Kris Zierhut, in a The Sun interview, saying dungeon kill XP was "brought way down".
What do the raid markers mean?
Warcraft Tavern's dungeons guide lists the markers groups use. Skull is the first kill and Cross the second. The rest name crowd control: Circle for a Rogue's Sap, Moon for a Mage's Polymorph, Square for a Hunter's Frost Trap, Star for a Priest's Shackle Undead and Triangle for a Druid's Hibernate, with Diamond for Warlock banish, seduce or fear. Leave crowd-controlled targets alone.
How do Need and Greed work?
Warcraft Wiki describes Need as the roll for gear you will use, Greed for gear you want to sell or disenchant, and Pass for no interest. Its etiquette page says to get the party's agreement before rolling Need, to set loot rules before the group starts, and never to take items by ninja looting.
Those pages describe the game in general. Which rules WoW Forever's party window applies is not confirmed; see Need vs Greed. Warcraft Tavern says every item that drops unlocks its appearance for every eligible looter, so you do not need to win a roll to collect the look.
What about breaks, repairs and leaving early?
I found no Forever source on breaks, repair stops or how long to wait for a slow group. Warcraft Wiki's general etiquette says joining and then leaving at once is rude. Warcraft Tavern says there is no automatic matchmaking, so you invite people yourself; see looking for group.
What is not confirmed yet
- Forever-specific etiquette: no Blizzard page lists one; these habits come from fan guides and Classic-era community norms.
- Need and Greed details: Warcraft Wiki's rules cover several game versions; Forever's exact rules are unconfirmed.
- Pull size: a forum debate, not a rule.
- Breaks and repairs: no source found.
Can the Lore Forever add-on and Willo help with this?
Entering a dungeon brings up a short briefing from the free Lore Forever add-on: why you are there and who you will face, in order. It has no internet access and its narration uses generated voices. Willo, a separate companion app for Windows 10 or 11 and Apple Silicon Macs (macOS 12 or later) per her page, lets you ask questions like "what does the Moon marker mean" out loud while you play. She can be wrong and is not official, so Warcraft Tavern's guide and the game text come first. Willo is free to start with 50 answers a day. Both are fan-made and not affiliated with Blizzard.
