Where is Alcaz Prison in WoW Forever?

Alcaz Prison stands on Alcaz Island, in Dustwallow Marsh, according to Blizzard's dungeon post. Warcraft Wiki's Dustwallow Marsh page places Alcaz among the islands just offshore in the ocean east of the swamp, and Wowhead's overview places it far to the northeast of Dustwallow Marsh. Blizzard says only that the prison's doors finally open; no source I opened gives an entrance or a route to the island.

Dustwallow Marsh is also where Blizzard places Onyxia's Lair, the 40-player raid that unlocks December 9. See the raids guide.

Is King Varian Wrynn in Alcaz Prison?

Blizzard does not say so. Its post says the island has long been linked to rumors of high-ranking prisoners, including King Varian Wrynn, and that players will uncover new pieces of a familiar mystery. Warcraft Tavern and Icy Veins repeat the rumor and no more.

The rumor has a source in the old story. MeinMMO says the Defias kidnapped Varian for Lady Prestor, who was really the black dragon Onyxia in disguise, and that in the original game he could be found on Alcaz Island until Patch 1.9. A Blizzplanet post agrees that the Missing Diplomat quest at Sentinel Hill revealed the diplomat was the king, taken by the Defias. Warcraft Wiki says Varian disappeared on the way to a summit on Theramore Isle, and that young Anduin was crowned, with Highlord Bolvar Fordragon as regent. That is the Stormwind of the first year of World of Warcraft, the era WoW Forever recreates. The Varian Wrynn story and Stormwind history set the scene.

Who is fighting inside Alcaz Prison?

Blizzard says players will find the Defias Brotherhood and naga locked in conflict inside. Warcraft Tavern's October 20 summary and Icy Veins' September 12 preview repeat it. No source explains why the two sides are fighting, or how the naga came to hold part of an island prison. For the outlaws' background, read the Defias Brotherhood explainer. The free Lore Forever add-on shows quest and zone background as you travel, and the optional Willo voice companion can read it aloud.

Who is Alcaz Prison for?

It is a level 48 to 53 dungeon for one party of five, above Krol'dok Stronghold at 40 to 45 and below Blackmaw Hold at 55 to 60. Horde and Alliance still cannot group together, and a party must share one ruleset, according to Blizzard's rulesets post. Blizzard has not said whether the prison favors either faction. Read the dungeons overview and the dungeon groups guide for party roles.

What is not confirmed yet

Bosses and loot: Blizzard's post names none, and no loot lists exist in the sources I opened.
Entrance: no source gives a route or location on the island.
Varian's fate: Blizzard names a rumor, not a plot. Whether the dungeon resolves it is unconfirmed.
Beta: the beta capped at level 30, below this dungeon, so nobody has publicly played it.
