WoW Forever Scholomance: Level, Entrance, Key and Bosses
Scholomance is the five-player necromancy school beneath Caer Darrow in the Western Plaguelands, and it is in World of Warcraft: Forever (WoW Forever) as an end-game dungeon that Warcraft Tavern lists for levels 58 to 60. Forever sources disagree on its exact level range and on whether a key is needed, so the numbers below name their source.
Quick answer: The entrance is on Caer Darrow in the Western Plaguelands, at about 69.7, 73.4 according to Kami Labs. Kami Labs says the Group Finder offers it from level 57, and the dungeon is for a group of five. Zockify and Kami Labs both count 14 bosses. The beta capped at level 30, below this dungeon.
Warcraft Wiki places Scholomance in the ruins of the House of Barov, on a rise over the abandoned city of Caer Darrow. Beneath it lie the crypts where the Cult of the Damned built its school of necromancy.

Where is the Scholomance entrance?
The entrance is on Caer Darrow in the Western Plaguelands. Kami Labs gives 69.7, 73.4, and Warcraft Wiki places the school in the ruins of the Barov family's house above the abandoned city. Warcraft Tavern's older Classic guide says Alliance players head east from Chillwind Camp and Horde players run in from Tirisfal Glades. See the Western Plaguelands guide and Tirisfal Glades guide for the roads.
What level is Scholomance in WoW Forever?
The sources split four ways. Warcraft Tavern's Forever dungeon list gives 58 to 60. Zockify lists a minimum of 45 and a recommended 57. Kami Labs lists entry at 33 and 57 for the Group Finder. Warcraft Wiki's Classic page lists 55 to 60. A Blizzard post about Cataclysm-era level changes lists 38 to 48 with a minimum of 33, which matches Kami Labs' entry level but not the other ranges, and it does not mention Forever. The endgame guide shows where level 60 dungeons sit.
Do you need a key for Scholomance?
Possibly, but no Forever source confirms it. Warcraft Wiki says the quest The Key to Scholomance starts with Alchemist Arbington for the Alliance and Apothecary Dithers for the Horde, in Chillwind Camp and The Bulwark, and needs Araj's Scarab first. It lists the quest at level 60, while Warcraft Tavern's Classic guide says level 55 and calls it a lengthy group chain that yields the Skeleton Key. Kami Labs does not mention an entrance key for Forever. Warcraft Wiki, Warcraft Tavern and Kami Labs agree that the Viewing Room Key drops from Rattlegore.
Who are the Scholomance bosses?
Kami Labs details four of Forever's 14: Kirtonos, Jandice Barov, Rattlegore and Marduk Blackpool. Warcraft Wiki's Classic page lists 13 by name. In Upper Scholomance it adds Vectus and Ras Frostwhisper to those four, and in Lower Scholomance it lists Instructor Malicia, Doctor Theolen Krastinov, Lorekeeper Polkelt, The Ravenian, Lord Alexei Barov, Lady Illucia Barov and the headmaster Darkmaster Gandling in Lower Scholomance. Counts vary: Warcraft Tavern's Classic guide lists 16 encounters, four of them summoned, quest or event bosses (Kirtonos, Death Knight Darkreaver, Kormok and Lord Blackwood). The final Forever roster is not confirmed.
What is the story of Scholomance?
Warcraft Wiki says Kel'Thuzad founded Scholomance and that his Cult of the Damned turned the crypts under Caer Darrow, an old Arathorian fortress, into a school of necromancy. Warcraft Tavern's Classic guide agrees that Kel'Thuzad was behind it: it says he tricked Lord Alexei Barov into handing the crypts to the Lich King, and that Barov's family was slaughtered. Warcraft Wiki records a second account in which the Barovs gave the keep to the Scourge first. Both sources name Darkmaster Gandling as headmaster, and Warcraft Wiki says the lich Ras Frostwhisper rules the site for the Scourge.
For the man behind it, read Who Is Kel'Thuzad?. For the plague that surrounds it, read the Scourge and plague explainer, and for the order that opposes it, the Argent Dawn explainer. The free Lore Forever add-on shows zone and quest background as you travel, and the optional Willo voice companion can read it aloud. Both are fan-made.
What is not confirmed yet
- Level range: four sources, four answers.
- Key: no Forever page confirms an attunement or a key.
