WoW Forever Faction Change, Race Change and Name Change

As of November 6, 2026, Blizzard Support's character services article says "This service is not available in WoW: Forever" under questions about transfers, faction changes and race changes. It does not name which one the line covers. No Blizzard page I opened mentions a name change, and the only transfer Blizzard describes is for a dead Hardcore character in World of Warcraft: Forever (WoW Forever).

Quick answer: Faction and race changes: Blizzard Support says the service is not available in WoW Forever. Name changes: none described. Ruleset moves: not allowed, except a dead Hardcore character. You can change appearance (Barbershop), specialization (a trainer fee) and professions (you lose progress).

Six things you may want to change in WoW Forever and what sources say: faction and race change not available per Blizzard Support, name change not described, ruleset transfer only for dead Hardcore characters, specialization changeable for a trainer fee, appearance changeable in the Barbershop.
What sources say you can and cannot change on a WoW Forever character, as of November 6, 2026.

Key facts

  • Faction and race change: Blizzard Support: "This service is not available in WoW: Forever"; Conquest Capped (undated) says none announced
  • Appearance: Warcraft Tavern says the Barbershop changes it, including body type, but not your race
  • Name change: Conquest Capped says no paid one; Warcraft Tavern describes only forced renames
  • Ruleset transfer: Blizzard says players cannot freely hop between rulesets; a dead Hardcore character can transfer (Blizzard, October 22)

Can you change faction in WoW Forever?

Not now, per Blizzard Support. Its article "How To Use a Character Service in World of Warcraft" (updated two days before I read it) lists transfer, faction change and race change questions, says services bought for another version work only in that version, and says "This service is not available in WoW: Forever." Conquest Capped says none is announced for any ruleset and Blizzard has not ruled out future ones.

Blizzard says characters group, run dungeons and raid only within the same ruleset and faction, and on PvP you can create one faction only. See faction balance and Alliance vs Horde.

Can you change your race?

Blizzard Support's line above is the only Blizzard statement I found that touches race changes. Warcraft Tavern's character creation guide says the Barbershop changes appearance, including body type, but not your race. Blizzard's Starter Guide says the HD or SD model choice "affects only appearance" and can be changed later in Options or at a Barbershop. Position Is Everything (November 3) says no method exists to turn an existing character into a Skyborne. See the character creation guide.

Can you change your character name?

No voluntary name change is described. Conquest Capped says there is no paid one. Warcraft Tavern's names guide says the first and last name combination is unique across all rulesets in your region and that a rule-breaking name can force a rename. See character name rules.

Can you move a character to another ruleset?

Not freely. Blizzard's ruleset article says players cannot freely hop between rulesets and that, once Hardcore launches, a character that dies can transfer. Warcraft Tavern's September 17 recap of the developer Q&A says you cannot change ruleset without a "Character Transfer service", with no word on cost or launch. More in can you switch rulesets.

What can you change on an existing character?

Appearance, in the Barbershop (Warcraft Tavern; HD or SD models also in Options, per Blizzard). Specialization: Warcraft Tavern says you pay a class trainer a fee, any time (see respec and talent reset). Professions: unlearning one loses your progress and most recipes.

What is not confirmed yet

  • Which service: the Blizzard Support line does not name the service it covers.
  • Future services: no source gives a date, price or eligibility rules; Conquest Capped says Blizzard has not ruled them out.
  • Single sources: Conquest Capped (page date unreadable) and Position Is Everything.

Can the Lore Forever add-on and Willo help with this?

Before you commit to a side, the free Lore Forever add-on tells the stories behind each faction's early quests. Willo is a separate companion app for Windows 10 or 11 and Apple Silicon Macs (macOS 12 or later), per her page; her FAQ and the Lore Forever FAQ say Windows and Mac, though CurseForge still says Windows. She is free to start with 50 answers a day; you can ask her out loud, for example "can I change my race". She can be wrong and is not official, so Blizzard's pages are the source of truth. Both are fan-made, not affiliated with Blizzard; the add-on has no internet access.
