Worgen
Worgen are fierce, lupine humanoids cursed with uncontrollable primal rage, moving upright yet hunting with bestial swiftness. Once thought to be mere nightmares conjured from other planes, these savage pack-hunters now terrorize Silverpine Forest, Ashenvale, and Duskwood.
Whispers and Folktales
Long before their recent emergence in Lordaeron and Kalimdor, wolf-men were whispered of in folktales and cautionary fables. Their true origins remain a mystery: scholars who have studied the beasts believe they were drawn into Azeroth from another realm, and both Archmage Arugal and the night elves' Scythe of Elune have proven able to call them forth.
Arugal's Folly
During the Third War, as the Scourge hordes overran Lordaeron and slain Kirin Tor wizards rose again as undead, Archmage Arugal sought a weapon to bolster Dalaran's dwindling ranks. Drawing from the forbidden research of the Dalaran wizard Ur, Arugal pierced the veil and summoned the beasts into Silverpine Forest. The summoned worgen devastated the undead invaders with savage abandon, but the archmage could not leash their fury. The beasts turned on the wizards themselves, spreading their curse through fang and claw. Driven mad by guilt and fascination, Arugal adopted the monsters as his children, seizing Baron Silverlaine's ancestral seat—now rechristened Shadowfang Keep—and cursing nearby villagers into monstrous nocturnal servitude.
