Paladin
Paladins are holy warriors who blend martial prowess with the power of the Holy Light. Clad in heavy plate, they protect the innocent, heal the wounded and strike down wicked foes. Humans and dwarves carry the Silver Hand's legacy for the Alliance, and among the Horde, Forsaken who served the Light in life still answer its call, though it burns them.
Origins in Lordaeron
The paladins were originally established during the Second War by Archbishop Alonsus Faol. Having witnessed the devastation wrought upon the pious Clerics of Northshire during the First War, Faol recognized that healers alone could not survive the brutality of orcish warfare. He gathered virtuous knights of Lordaeron and trained surviving clerics in the ways of martial combat and divine magic. Baptized as the Knights of the Silver Hand and led by Uther the Lightbringer, these champions provided both physical defense and spiritual renewal to the kingdoms of humanity.
Champions of the Holy Light
Where priests act as the voice of the Holy Light—preaching faith and tending the spirits of the common folk—paladins serve as its martial arm. Their profound conviction grants them miraculous powers: they project emboldening auras, seal sanctified blessings upon their allies, and mend fatal injuries. In combat against unholy horrors, the Light burns through their strikes, allowing paladins to incinerate undead and demonic entities with righteous fury.
Heirs of the Silver Hand
The fall of Lordaeron during the Third War scattered the original order, yet the ideals of the Silver Hand endure. In the south, the humans of Stormwind and the stalwart dwarves of Ironforge have taken up the mantle. Training in sanctuaries like the Cathedral of Light and the Hall of Mysteries, these paladins pledge their swords and shields to uphold justice and defend the Alliance from the gathering shadows.
Paladins of the Forsaken
Not every knight of Lordaeron stayed in the grave. Some Forsaken who served the Light in life still hold to their vows, and the Light still answers them, though it sears their dead flesh with every prayer. Aramis Hammerhand trains these risen paladins in the chapel at Deathknell, Shari Stilwell continues their instruction in Brill, and an order of Forsaken paladins, Tyr's Watch, holds Bandarion Keep in western Tirisfal. Theirs is a lonely road: they wield the very power that burned their people, and Sylvanas Windrunner tolerates their order while watching it closely.
