Dwarf
Dwarves are a stout, resilient race carved from the living stone of ancient titan-forged earthen, now inhabiting the snow-capped mountain kingdoms of Khaz Modan and beyond. Known for their mastery of stonework, metallurgy, and devastating frontline combat, they stand as one of the Alliance's fiercest and most dependable pillars. Under the reign of King Magni Bronzebeard, their sprawling subterranean capital of Ironforge serves as the beating heart of dwarven society.
Sons of the Mountain
Long ago, the subterranean titan-forged known as earthen awoke from an eons-long slumber within the vaults of Uldaman, transformed by the Curse of Flesh into beings of blood and bone. Taking the name dwarves, they reclaimed the high crags of Khaz Modan—named in honor of the titan Khaz'goroth—and carved the majestic subterranean stronghold of Ironforge beneath the peaks of Dun Morogh. Endowed with incredible natural fortitude, a sharp eye for stone and ore, and a penchant for roaring hearths and heady ale, dwarves approach craftsmanship and warfare with identical tenacity.
The War of the Three Hammers
Dwarven unity shattered centuries ago following the death of High King Modimus Anvilmar. Civil war erupted across Ironforge among three rival factions: the Bronzebeard clan, the Wildhammer clan, and the Dark Iron clan. After the Bronzebeards secured the mountain and drove out their kin, Sorcerer-Thane Thaurissan of the Dark Irons launched a disastrous war of vengeance against both rivals. Driven to desperation beneath the Redridge Mountains, Thaurissan accidentally summoned Ragnaros the Firelord, immolating his own realm into the volcanic wastes of Searing Gorge and the Burning Steppes. The surviving Dark Irons were enslaved beneath Blackrock Mountain, while the devastated Wildhammers migrated north to Aerie Peak in the Hinterlands.
Steadfast Shield of the Alliance
When the orcish Horde surged across the continent during the Second War, King Magni Bronzebeard sealed Ironforge's gates against brutal sieges while dwarven forces took up arms alongside the Alliance of Lordaeron. Renowned for heavy plate armor, deadly muskets, and fearless gryphon riders, dwarven warriors played a vital role in shattering the Horde. Today, the Kingdom of Ironforge remains one of the Alliance's most stalwart defenders, welcoming their displaced gnome cousins into their halls while actively unearthing the titan ruins of Khaz Modan to unravel the mysteries of their ancient origins.
