Darrowmere Lake
Darrowmere Lake is an expansive freshwater lake situated in the southeastern reaches of the Western Plaguelands. At its heart lies the fortress island of Caer Darrow, whose ruined halls conceal the Cult of the Damned's dread necromantic academy, Scholomance.
A Storied Inland Sea
Darrowmere Lake is among the largest inland bodies of water in the Eastern Kingdoms, bordered by the blight-stricken forests of Lordaeron and fed by the Thondroril and Darrowmere rivers. During the Second War, these deep waters saw intense naval skirmishes between the Horde and Grand Admiral Daelin Proudmoore's fleet. The Horde also struck the island fortress of Caer Darrow at the lake's heart, sacking it and carrying off its ancient runestone. Once a thriving waterway and trade artery for the House of Barov, the lake is now a grim, mist-veiled basin in the heart of the Plaguelands.
The Shadow on the Waters
Dominating the center of the lake is Caer Darrow, once the proud ancestral seat of the Barov family. Beneath its broken foundations lies Scholomance, the Scourge's primary academy for necromancy and dark arts. The waters surrounding the island are stagnant and fraught with danger, reflecting the dark legacy of the Cult of the Damned. Adventurers venturing across its surface must brave not only the perils of the blighted countryside but the pervasive dread cast by the fortress at its core.
