Caer Darrow
Caer Darrow is a fortified island situated in Darrowmere Lake in the Western Plaguelands. Formerly the aristocratic seat of the noble House Barov, the island's keep was secretly sold to Kel'Thuzad and transformed into the necromantic school of Scholomance, leaving the above-ground town plagued by wandering phantoms.
A Legacy of War and Betrayal
Long before the Scourge, Caer Darrow was a strategic stronghold of Lordaeron that housed an ancient elven runestone. During the Second War, the Horde sacked the fortress and carved up the runestone to craft Gul'dan's Altars of Storms. When Lord Uther the Lightbringer sailed to offer relief to the survivors, his fleet was ambushed by Alterac privateers—an act of treachery that exposed Alterac's betrayal to the Alliance.
