WoW Forever Stress Test and Beta: What Happened and What Comes Next
The World of Warcraft: Forever (WoW Forever) beta opened on September 17, 2026 and closed on October 23 at 10 AM Pacific, and a stress test on October 21 let any WoW account holder try the game on its launch hardware before every test character was deleted. As of October 24, 2026, the game launches worldwide on November 4.
Quick answer: The beta had a level cap of 30 and has now ended. The stress test began at 2 PM Pacific on October 21, needed no subscription, and Blizzard deleted its characters, names and guilds afterward. Beta characters are widely reported not to carry over, so plan to start fresh at launch.

Every road in Azeroth was walked by someone first. For five weeks the testers walked these ones, so that the crowds arriving on launch day would find the bridges holding. Then, for one day, the gates were opened to everyone.

When did the WoW Forever beta start and end?
The beta was the first walk along the road. It opened on September 17, 2026. Kami Labs reports that Blizzard's September announcements ran it through October 21, Warcraft Tavern's roadmap listed October 22, and Icy Veins says Blizzard extended the end by a day to October 23. TechRadar says it was initially due to end on October 20 and, citing Blizzard's October 20 announcements, gives the closing time as 10 AM Pacific on October 23. PC Gamer wrote on October 24 that the beta "has just ended".
Kami Labs, citing Blizzard's September 17 announcement, says the cap was level 20 in the first week, and Warcraft Tavern reports it rose to 30 with the October 1 update, which also opened Excavation Site: Wetlands. Levels 31 to 60 were never playable, so advice in the leveling 30 to 60 guide is projection.
What was the WoW Forever stress test?
On October 21 the beta went dark and the realms opened wide. Blizzard's news post, updated October 16, moved the test from October 19 to October 21. Blizzard said it would take the beta offline, then open WoW Forever on the regional hardware it will use at launch. North American play began at 2 PM PDT.
Blizzard's table lists four-hour windows for most regions, so 2 PM to 6 PM PDT in North America, but 19:00 to 03:00 CEST and 18:00 to 02:00 BST in Europe, eight hours each. Neither Blizzard nor Icy Veins, which prints the same table, explains the difference. Players joined through the Battle.net app's "In Development" Game Version menu and made a new test character.
Who could join the stress test, and what happened to the characters?
The test was open to anyone with a WoW account. Blizzard's news post says no subscription, Game Time, invitation or beta access was required, and it lists no rewards. When the test ended, every character, name and guild created on the test servers was deleted.
How did the stress test go?
Blizzard has not published results or player counts that this review could find. The best day-of record is MeinMMO's live ticker, which does not state its time zone. It reports launcher errors in the first hour, then a no-queue login about an hour after the start and smooth play near 100 frames per second.
Nearly three hours in, MeinMMO says the developers announced they were deliberately crashing a few background services. It also reports enemies despawning mid-fight, and some players with flickering shadows or no realm choice. MeinMMO says there was no Roleplaying realm during the test.
Do beta or stress test characters carry over to launch?
Stress test characters were deleted, per Blizzard. For the beta, Kami Labs found no explicit statement in Blizzard's announcements and calls the wipe a deduction. Warcraft Tavern's October 20 report says all characters and progress will be wiped before launch. The safe plan is a level 1 start on November 4.
Names are not kept automatically. Pre-purchasers can try to claim names in the Early Name Reservation, which Blizzard says is first come, first served.
What happens next for WoW Forever?
Early Name Reservation opens October 27 at 1 PM PDT in North America. The game goes live November 4 at 3 PM Pacific, which the launch time guide converts for other regions. Three raids unlock on December 9. Pick a ruleset before you reserve a name, and read the patch notes guide for what changed in the beta. The free Lore Forever add-on adds readable zone and quest background; it is fan-made.
