Is WoW Forever Too Easy? What Players and Blizzard Say

Is World of Warcraft: Forever (WoW Forever) too easy? Players disagree: a 76-post Blizzard forum thread started on November 5, 2026 has some calling it "way too easy" and others saying it matches Classic, and none of its replies came from Blizzard staff. Blizzard's own difficulty answer so far is a ruleset: Hardcore, which it says arrives "sometime after launch" with permanent consequences for death.

Quick answer: No source I opened gives a difficulty verdict from Blizzard. Players split between "easy, as in Classic" and "wait until level 40." Normal is the beginner-friendly ruleset; Hardcore, not live yet, is the harder one.

What players and Blizzard say about WoW Forever difficulty: forum players split between too easy and same as Classic, Blizzard has no staff reply in the thread, Normal ruleset is a welcoming place to learn, and Hardcore comes sometime after launch with lasting death consequences.
Forum views from the Blizzard thread of November 5, 2026; Hardcore details from Blizzard's October 22 ruleset post. Player opinions, not facts about balance.

Key facts

  • Thread: "Is it just me, or is WoW Forever way too easy?" started November 5, 76 posts, about 3,800 views, no staff posts (Blizzard forums, read November 6)
  • Normal ruleset: called "a welcoming place to learn" (Blizzard Starter Guide)
  • Hardcore: not available at launch; "death carries lasting consequences" (Blizzard, October 22)
  • Hardcore date: none announced; Blizzard's October 28 Starter Guide says timing will be shared later

What do players say about the difficulty?

The opening post says leveling is "extremely fast" and most encounters are not challenging. Replies fall into camps, all anecdotal:

  • Yes, it is easy. One says "way easier than Vanilla"; the opening post says you barely have to think about abilities.
  • It is the same as Classic. Several say it matches or is no harder than Classic; one says they play Hardcore and Era and found Forever the same, and that it only feels faster because of more quests and bigger XP chunks.
  • Too early to judge. One reply says to complain if it is still easy at level 40; another notes the game still punishes pulling too many mobs.
  • Memory is unreliable. One calls it a "Mandela Effect" that Vanilla was harder than it was; another remembers it as difficult.

These are forum opinions from one thread, not a survey. For XP pace, see how long to reach level 60.

Has Blizzard said anything about difficulty?

I found no Blizzard post or reply on whether Forever is too easy, and none of the thread's 76 posts is from staff. What Blizzard does say concerns rulesets. Its October 22 ruleset post describes Normal as questing and fighting monsters with optional PvP, PvP as being almost always at risk of attack by opposing players, and Roleplay as strict naming and behavior rules. Blizzard's Starter Guide says Normal "offers a welcoming place to learn."

What is the Hardcore ruleset?

Blizzard says Hardcore is for players seeking a challenge, where "death carries lasting consequences." It is not available at launch. A Hardcore character that dies can transfer to another ruleset, including PvP, and Hardcore players are excluded from battlegrounds. Warcraft Tavern's report from the BlizzCon Hardcore panel says developers designed much of the content with Hardcore in mind and that no date had been announced. See the Hardcore ruleset guide and rulesets.

Does difficulty change by ruleset?

Blizzard's pages describe rulesets by PvP and roleplay rules, not by monster difficulty. The PvP ruleset adds risk from other players; Blizzard does not say monsters are tougher there. I found no per-ruleset difficulty setting.

What about dungeons and later levels?

Players' views on dungeons are in a separate thread, "Can we buff dungeons yet?", and a longer one, "Harder 5 man endgame dungeons" (started October 28). Raids unlock on December 9 per Blizzard; see dungeons.

What is not confirmed yet

  • Any measured difficulty: no clear-rate, death-rate or time-to-level data from Blizzard or the outlets I opened.
  • Blizzard's position: none stated on this question.
  • Later levels: the posters I read mention early levels such as 6 and 10; one says to judge again at 40.
  • Hardcore details: date and exact rules beyond Blizzard's October 22 post.

Can the Lore Forever add-on or Willo help?

Neither changes difficulty. If you want the world to feel weightier, the free Lore Forever add-on adds quest and zone stories, has no internet access and uses generated voices for narration. Willo is a separate companion app for Windows 10 or 11 and Apple Silicon Macs (macOS 12 or later), per her page; her FAQ and the Lore Forever FAQ say Windows and Mac, though CurseForge still calls her a Windows app. Ask her out loud how a mechanic works; she is free to start with 50 answers a day, can be wrong and is not official. Both are fan-made, not affiliated with Blizzard. Start with the beginner's guide.
