Hillsbrad Foothills and Strahnbrad Explained: History, Quests and Levels

Hillsbrad Foothills is the contested level 20 to 30 zone of southern Lordaeron where the Alliance town of Southshore faces the Horde town of Tarren Mill, and Strahnbrad is the Syndicate-held town in the neighboring Alterac Mountains, where Prince Arthas, with Uther, was sent against orc raiders in the Third War. In World of Warcraft: Forever (WoW Forever), set in the first year of World of Warcraft, both places are on the Eastern Kingdoms leveling road.

Quick answer: Hillsbrad Foothills is rated 20 to 30. Southshore (Alliance) and Tarren Mill (Horde) are close enough that the factions meet constantly. Strahnbrad lies north-east in the Alterac Mountains, where Games.gg lists a 30 to 40 quest zone, and holds the Horde quest to free Gol'dir.

A two-column map of places: Hillsbrad Foothills (levels 20 to 30) with Southshore for the Alliance, Tarren Mill for the Horde and Durnholde Keep, and Strahnbrad in the Alterac Mountains (a 30 to 40 quest zone) with its Syndicate base, Gol'dir's prison and its Third War history. Sources: Warcraft Wiki, Engadget, Games.gg, StrategyWiki.

Two towns stand a short ride apart, each flying its own banner, each with a graveyard close enough to make a death cheap. North of them the hills rise toward Alterac, where an old kingdom's ruins have become a hiding place.

What is not confirmed yet

  • Blizzard has not published a Forever quest list for Hillsbrad or Strahnbrad, so the details come from original-game pages and beta-era community guides.

  • Warcraft Wiki lists the Gol'dir quest at level 36 with a minimum level of 29, and Games.gg's summary of the Forever quest gives no level.
