Warlock

Warlocks are spellcasters who bargain with dark powers, commanding demons, debilitating curses, and devastating fire and shadow magics. While deeply feared and distrusted by nearly every civilized society on Azeroth, some wield these forbidden arts in defense of their factions, turning the weapons of the Burning Legion against its own agents.

Forbidden Arts

Where ordinary spellcasters see corruption and ruin, warlocks see opportunity. They achieve victory through calculated cruelty, striking from a distance while cloaked in shadow and fire. By siphoning the vital essences and souls of their enemies, warlocks fuel their most catastrophic rituals, raining brimstone from the sky and breaking minds with agonizing curses. Because they wear only simple cloth and possess little physical resilience, they rely on summoned horrors to intercept danger, willingly sacrificing demonic thralls to ensure their own survival.

Demonic Servitude

A warlock's authority over the Twisting Nether begins with petty bargains and grows into iron domination. Novices learn to command mischievous imps to hurl flame, but as a practitioner's dark understanding deepens, they bind far deadlier entities: voidwalkers torn from shadowy depths to absorb physical punishment, seductive succubi capable of beguiling enemy minds, and ravenous felhunters that devour magical energies. Each summon demands dangerous ritual focus, for the Nether's denizens constantly test their masters for any flicker of weakness.

A Legacy of Ruin

The roots of orcish demonology trace back to Draenor, where the demon lord Kil'jaeden seduced Gul'dan with the promise of supreme power. Gul'dan founded the secretive Shadow Council and transformed many shaman into masters of fel magic. The rampant use of demonic magic withered Draenor's fertile plains into barren red wasteland, heralding the Old Horde's invasion through the Dark Portal. In human lands, the Kirin Tor forbade demonology and hunted down illicit summonings, yet ambitious mages regularly succumbed to the lure of untamed sorcery.

Tolerated Pariahs

In the modern era, warlocks walk a razor's edge between utility and execution. In Stormwind, practitioners meet hidden away in gloomy tavern basements, far from the watchful eyes of the Cathedral of Light. In Orgrimmar, they cluster in the shadowed chasms of the Cleft of Shadow, kept under scrutiny by Thrall's shamanistic regime. While their methods invite revulsion, neither Alliance nor Horde can completely dismiss the devastating edge warlock magic offers on a hostile battlefield.
