Blackrock clan

The Blackrock clan is a martial orcish clan renowned for its strict military discipline, unmatched blacksmithing, and central role in the First and Second Wars. Today, the clan is deeply fractured: while some veterans follow Thrall in the New Horde, a vicious and renegade splinter group known as the Dark Horde occupies the upper peaks of Blackrock Mountain under Rend Blackhand.

The Anvil of the Old Horde

Hailing from Draenor, the Blackrock clan made its name through rigid hierarchy, heavy armor, and mastery over the forge. Under Chieftain Blackhand, they served as the brutal core of the Old Horde during the invasion of Azeroth, laying siege to Stormwind. When Orgrim Doomhammer slew Blackhand to cleanse the Horde of Gul'dan's direct puppet mastery, leadership of both the clan and the Horde remained firmly in Blackrock hands through the grueling campaigns of the Second War.

A Fractured Legacy

Following the Horde's catastrophic defeat at Blackrock Mountain, the clan shattered. Many warriors were rounded up and placed in Alliance internment camps, later to be liberated by Thrall and inducted into his reformed New Horde. However, unrepentant elements rallied behind Blackhand's sons, Rend and Maim. This faction retreated into the heights of Blackrock Spire, forming the hostile Dark Horde alongside remnants of the Dragonmaw and other rogue clans.

The Threat in the Spire

Today, Rend Blackhand claims the mantle of true Warchief from his throne in Blackrock Spire. The Dark Horde maintains an uneasy and treacherous truce with the Dark Iron dwarves who lurk in the molten depths below, all while waging war against both the Alliance and Thrall's Horde. Uncompromising, demon-tainted remnants of the clan have also been spotted lingering in Lordaeron, seeking to revive dark sacrificial rituals.
