Trogg
Troggs are brutish, subterranean humanoids descended from the earliest, failed titan-forged experiments sealed deep within the earth. Having recently clawed their way to the surface after dwarven excavations disturbed their ancient vaults, these relentless diggers have overrun dwarven quarries and driven the gnomes out of their beloved capital of Gnomeregan.
The Flawed Predecessors
Long before mortal races recorded history, the titan-forged keepers sought to fashion servants from stone. Their initial design went awry, yielding stone-skinned brutes of low intelligence and unbridled savagery. Distressed by their botched creations, the keepers refined the matrix into the earthen race, who would eventually become the ancestors of the dwarves. Unwilling to annihilate the imperfect troggs, the giantess Ironaya sealed them deep underground within the vault of Uldaman, intending for them to remain trapped in eternal stasis.
Awakened by the Pickaxe
For countless millennia, the troggs lay dormant until the Explorers' League of Ironforge breached the ancient subterranean complexes of Khaz Modan. Waking in an unfamiliar era, swarms of furious troggs poured from the depths, pursuing their distant dwarven relatives with ancestral fury. Finding the surface bright and unwelcoming, they carved sprawling tunnel networks beneath Dun Morogh, Loch Modan, and the Badlands, quickly ambushing quarries, archaeological dig sites, and trade outposts.
