Refugee
Throughout the violent history of Azeroth, constant warfare has repeatedly driven civilian populations from their homes. From the exodus of Stormwind during the First War to the tragic flight from Lordaeron in the Third War, refugees remain living testaments to the devastating costs of invasion, plague, and betrayal.
The Exodus of Stormwind
When the Orcish Horde swept through the kingdom of Stormwind during the First War, settlements like Goldshire, Moonbrook, and Grand Hamlet burned. Following the assassination of King Llane Wrynn, Sir Anduin Lothar took command of the kingdom's remnants. He gathered surviving soldiers and desperate civilians, escorting them to the harbor as the city burned. Lothar led a massive fleet across the Great Sea to the northern shores of Lordaeron. Arriving near Southshore, the exiled survivors—including the young Prince Varian Wrynn—were granted sanctuary by King Terenas Menethil II.
Flight from the Scourge
A generation after welcoming Stormwind's exiles, the people of Lordaeron faced ruin of their own. During the Third War, the Scourge plague and the legions of the undead systematically dismantled the kingdom. Prince Arthas Menethil slaughtered his own subjects as he swept across the realm, leaving survivors scattered and terrified. Lady Jaina Proudmoore managed to lead an expedition of refugees across the sea to Kalimdor, eventually establishing a settlement at Theramore. However, countless others remained behind in the Eastern Kingdoms, hunted relentlessly by the Scourge, the Forsaken, and monstrous horrors that arose in the ruins.
