Quilboar

Quilboar are aggressive, boar-like humanoids native to central Kalimdor, renowned for their sharp spinal quills and relentless territorial savagery. Claiming descent from the fallen demigod Agamaggan, they dwell within dense mazes of razor-sharp brambles across Durotar, Mulgore, and the Barrens. Their fierce struggle over water, soil, and sacred ground makes them a constant threat to travelers and Horde settlements.

Children of the Great Boar

Quilboar revere Agamaggan, the colossal boar Ancient who perished battling the Burning Legion during the War of the Ancients ten thousand years ago. According to their sacred traditions, the quilboar are his mortal offspring. Where Agamaggan bled and died across central Kalimdor, enormous thorny vines erupted from the scorched earth, forming sprawling root-mazes that the quilboar treat as holy ground. His crystallized blood endures across the Barrens as crimson Blood Shards, which their geomancers dig up and revere as powerful talismans.

Bramble Harrows and Geomancy

Rather than building traditional towns of stone or timber, quilboar cultivate colossal briars that choke surrounding vegetation and render nearby ground barren. Tribes are typically guided by powerful geomancers—practitioners of an earthbound, crude shamanism who consult stones and crystals to direct the clan. These mystics call upon Agamaggan's spirit to summon spectral boars into combat. Because the arid central plains offer few oases, quilboar view water as the ultimate treasure; they stage lavish feasts when rare rains fall and defend water holes with vicious tenacity.

The War for the Barrens

For generations, quilboar clashed bitterly with the nomadic tauren and roaming centaur packs. When Thrall led the Orcish Horde into Kalimdor, orcs rapidly colonized Durotar and established trade routes through the Barrens, driving displaced tribes into open revolt. Quilboar war parties ambush supply wagons, are suspected of frightening tallstriders into wagon trains, and stage raids on outposts like Crossroads and Camp Taurajo. Two principal tribes dominate the open plains: the Razormane and the Bristleback, both engaged in simultaneous feuds against the Horde and each other.
