Pirate
Pirates and buccaneers are lawless seafaring plunderers operating across the Great Sea and coastal waters of Azeroth. Preying on Alliance, Horde, and neutral merchant vessels alike, they band together under loose flags to seize wealth, capture cargo, and control coastal coves. Their violent presence drives constant naval skirmishes from the waters of Kalimdor to the shores of the Eastern Kingdoms.
Lords of the High Seas
Pirates—often called buccaneers, corsairs, or freebooters—are maritime raiders of nearly every race who make their living seizing ships and raiding coastal settlements. Their operations stretch far beyond simple robbery; crews regularly engage in smuggling, kidnappings, and mercenary contracts for whoever has coin. With the chaos left behind by the Third War and the collapse of northern kingdoms, naval enforcement has fractured, giving pirate factions the freedom to carve out fortified footholds on neglected islands and coastal coves.
A Ruthless Life
Despite common tales painting pirate life as one of romantic adventure, life aboard a buccaneer vessel is brutal and short. Crews endure squalid, rat-infested holds, harsh discipline, and the ever-present threat of scurvy, fought off only with supplies of limes. Betrayal is an everyday hazard, and captains maintain their command solely through strength and fear of punishment, which ranges from immediate execution to being marooned or fed to sharks. When battles end, buccaneers celebrate with roaring bouts of dice, song, and heavy rum.
Factions and Havens
While independent crews roam every sea lane, major organizations wield enough ships to contest sovereign navies. The Southsea Freebooters harass shipping throughout the waters surrounding Kalimdor, while the notorious Bloodsail Buccaneers menace the southern seas and wage open war against the Steamwheedle Cartel in Booty Bay.
