Furbolg

Furbolgs are a hulking, reclusive race of bear-men native to northern Kalimdor who lived in harmony with nature and the night elves for millennia. In the wake of the Third War, demonic corruption and lingering fel magic have driven nearly every tribe into a frenzied madness. Today, former friends have become vicious territorial predators, with only a tiny handful of tribes clinging to their sanity.

Ancient Kinship

Furbolgs are an ancient people of Kalimdor who have long revered the wild god Ursoc. During the War of the Ancients ten thousand years ago, tribal packs united under chieftain Unng Ak to fight alongside night elves and tauren against the first demonic invasion. Following the Great Sundering, they chose seclusion deep in the northern woodlands, maintaining peaceful ties with night elf druids and forest wardens while living in simple harmony with the wild.

The Scourge of Madness

The Third War shattered the furbolgs' tranquil existence. The passage of the Burning Legion through Kalimdor left lingering fel taint across the soil and canopy of Ashenvale and Felwood. Simple-minded and deeply attuned to the land, the bear-men absorbed this corruption directly. Their wizened shamans were overthrown or silenced by bloodthirsty firebrands who channeled fel moss, dark talismans, and corrupt alchemy, transforming peaceful gatherers into rabid raiders who now attack travelers and night elf settlements on sight.

The Unbroken Line

Across northern Kalimdor, nearly every major tribe has succumbed: the Gnarlpine across Teldrassil, the Blackwood of Darkshore, the Thistlefur and Foulweald in Ashenvale, and the Deadwood and Winterfall of the northern highlands. Yet a few hold the line. Deep within the fortified tunnels connecting Felwood, Winterspring, and Moonglade, the Timbermaw tribe fiercely guards its sanity. Wary and isolated, the Timbermaw defend their hold against their crazed northern kin, desperate to preserve what remains of their uncorrupted culture.
