Ruins of Lordaeron
The Ruins of Lordaeron are the hollowed-out surface remnants of Capital City, the once-glorious heart of humanity's northern empire. Destroyed when Prince Arthas murdered his father and unleashed the Scourge, the blasted courtyards and throne room now serve as the fortified gateway to the Undercity below.
A Fallen Empire's Gateway
Capital City was once the radiant summit of human civilization, uniting the northern realms under King Terenas Menethil II. When Prince Arthas returned from Northrend carrying the cursed runeblade Frostmourne, the celebrations turned into a slaughterhouse. Arthas slew his father on the throne, leaving the metropolis to rot under Scourge rule. Following the civil war that tore the Scourge apart, Lady Sylvanas Windrunner claimed the devastated palace, securing the surface while expanding the crypts and dungeons beneath into the Undercity.
Echoes of Betrayal
The palace ruins remain psychically scarred by their violent fall. Travelers walking through the entryway and courtyards often hear the ghostly chime of celebration bells, hushed murmurs of adoring crowds, and the chilling dialogue between Arthas and his father just before the regicide. Blood still stains the floor of the grand throne room, and those possessing magical detection can glimpse spectral citizens eternally reliving the afternoon their prince doomed them all.
