Rogue or Warrior in WoW Forever? Leveling, Dungeons and How to Choose

In World of Warcraft: Forever (WoW Forever), the Rogue is a stealth melee damage dealer and the Warrior is a heavily armored fighter who can also tank dungeons, and both are open to every Skyborne. Both are tough first characters: a preliminary beta ranking puts the Rogue a tier above the Warrior for solo leveling, while the Warrior's strength is the tank seat in a group.

Quick answer: Choose Rogue for burst damage, stealth and control, and Warrior if you want to tank. Skyborne can be either. A beginner-focused guide advises avoiding both as a first character, so Hunter or Warlock are gentler starts. All data comes from the level 30 beta.

Rogue and Warrior compared in WoW Forever
A side-by-side comparison of Rogue and Warrior in WoW Forever: role, resource, armor, solo leveling tier (B versus C), dungeon role and key levels, with both classes open to Skyborne.

Two paths leave the starter zone. One runs through the shadows, where the blade waits for the first mistake. The other holds a line of shields, where the enemy must come through you.

Key facts

  • Roles: Rogue is damage only; Warrior is damage or tank (Warcraft Tavern, NoobToBoss)
  • Resources: Rogue uses Energy and combo points; Warrior uses Rage (Warcraft Tavern)
  • Armor: Rogue wears cloth and leather; Warrior learns Plate at level 40 (Warcraft Tavern)
  • Solo leveling tier: Rogue B, Warrior C (NoobToBoss, October 19, preliminary)
  • Skyborne: both classes are available to High Order and Windshaper (Blizzard, Method)
  • Talents: first point at level 10 (Warcraft Tavern)

Can Skyborne be Warriors or Rogues in WoW Forever?

Yes, on both sides. Blizzard's race and class list gives Windshaper Skyborne (Horde) Druid, Hunter, Rogue, Shaman and Warrior, and High Order Skyborne (Alliance) Druid, Hunter, Mage, Rogue and Warrior. Method's September 27 table agrees. Warcraft Tavern's opinion is cooler: Skyborne "doesn't provide much to Warriors," and its Rogue guide calls the racials weak. The race needs a paid pack; see how to unlock Skyborne.

How do the Rogue and Warrior play differently?

The Rogue opens from Stealth and spends combo points, which do not carry between targets, on finishers. Sap, Gouge, Kick and Vanish provide control and escape. Warcraft Tavern calls Energy smoother in Forever, but says Rogues eat often, are squishy and rely on gear.

The Warrior builds Rage by fighting and being hit, and Warcraft Tavern calls it consistent but slow. Self-healing and crowd control are limited, so pulling several enemies can be fatal alone.

Which levels faster alone, Rogue or Warrior?

NoobToBoss ranks Rogue B tier, for burst damage but no self-heals, and Warrior C, for gear dependence and downtime. Both rankings are preliminary. Warcraft Tavern calls Rogue "one of the most difficult classes to level up," though it says Forever fixes that to some extent, while MMonster says Combat gives the smoothest Rogue start. See the Rogue talent build.

Warrior sources split. Warcraft Tavern calls Arms the traditional leveling choice. Icy Veins rates Arms "capable, but slower than many other classes" and calls Protection the fastest Warrior spec. See the Warrior talent build.

Which is better in dungeons?

The Warrior can tank. NoobToBoss ranks Protection the runner-up tank behind Protection Paladin, and Warcraft Tavern calls it "the most basic type of tank." Warcraft Tavern says tanks are hard to find, and no automatic finder fills the seat; see dungeon groups and tanks and healers.

The Rogue cannot tank. Warcraft Tavern's Combat guide makes it primary melee damage, with Blade Flurry for limited multi-target damage, and the Subtlety Ambush build struggles because Ambush cannot be used in combat without Vanish until Cutthroat. NoobToBoss says Rogues suit single-target bosses over big pulls.

What are the key level milestones?

  • Rogue: Stealth at 1; Slice and Dice, Sprint and Dual Wield at 10; Poisons by class quest at 20; Vanish at 22; Blade Flurry (Combat) and Kidney Shot at 30; Cutthroat at 35 (Warcraft Tavern)
  • Warrior: Charge and Rend at 4; Defensive Stance quest and Taunt at 10; Revenge at 14; Dual Wield at 20; Vanguard at 25; Berserker Stance at 30; Plate, Apprentice Riding and Shield Slam at 40 (Warcraft Tavern, Icy Veins)

How do you choose between Rogue and Warrior?

  • Want to tank or be wanted by groups: Warrior, with Protection.
  • Want stealth, control and single-target burst: Rogue, with Combat.
  • Want an easy first character: neither. Timesaver.gg, a boosting site, lists both to avoid first; see the beginner class guide and Is WoW Forever beginner friendly?.
  • Still torn: follow the fantasy you will enjoy for dozens of hours.

The free Lore Forever add-on is fan-made and shows readable zone and quest background for either class. See the Rogue guide and Warrior guide.

What is not confirmed yet

  • The beta stopped at level 30; builds for levels 31 to 60 come at launch.
  • Mutilate is level 30 at Warcraft Tavern and in MMonster's text, but MMonster's trainer table lists a Mutilate rank at level 40.
  • Respec costs conflict between sources, as covered in the Rogue and Warrior talent build guides.
  • Rankings are preliminary and may change on November 4, 2026.
