How to Unlock and Start as a Skyborne in WoW Forever

To play a Skyborne in World of Warcraft: Forever (WoW Forever), you buy the Skyborne Heroic Pack or a higher edition, choose Windshaper (Horde) or High Order (Alliance) at character creation, and begin on Zephras Isle, a floating level 1 to 12 island in Skywall. No achievement, quest or Legacy unlock for the race appears in any source reviewed for this guide.

Quick answer: A subscription alone does not open the Skyborne. Buy a pack, make the character, play the island's quests, then take the airship from Valanaar to Mulgore (Horde) or Dalaran (Alliance). The game launches November 4, 2026.

How a Skyborne is unlocked and started — A four-step path: buy the Skyborne Heroic Pack or higher, choose Windshaper for the Horde or High Order for the Alliance, play Zephras Isle at levels 1 to 12, then board the Valanaar airship to Mulgore for the Horde or Dalaran for the Alliance.

The wind has no gate of its own, so the gate is a ledger entry. Before you stand on Zephras Isle, where the air spirits have gone and the old stonework is failing, one thing must be on your account. After that the island opens.

How do you unlock the Skyborne in WoW Forever?

The Skyborne are sold, not earned. Blizzard's edition announcement lists "Access to the new Skyborne race and their Zephras Isle starting experience" as a Heroic Pack benefit, and the Epic Pack and Warcraft Forever Collection include everything in the Heroic Pack. Warcraft Tavern reports Blizzard's product wording as requiring purchase of the Heroic Pack "or higher edition."

Base access comes with a subscription or Game Time, so the packs add the race on top. Early Name Reservation, included with any pack, runs October 27 to November 3, 2026. According to wow.gg (September 16, 2026), no plan to offer the race without a pack has been announced. See the editions guide for each pack.

Can an achievement or the Legacy system unlock Skyborne?

No source reviewed says so. Blizzard's Legacy system announcement lists four account-wide rewards at launch: a toy, a pet, a tabard and a mount. None is a race. Blizzard's Skyborne and edition pages describe no achievement requirement. The wider question is in race unlocks in WoW Forever.

Which classes can a Skyborne be?

Each faction path opens its own doorway. According to Blizzard, Windshaper Skyborne (Horde) can be Druid, Hunter, Rogue, Shaman or Warrior. High Order Skyborne (Alliance) can be Druid, Hunter, Mage, Rogue or Warrior. A Skyborne Warrior is open to both factions; no Paladin, Priest or Warlock is listed. Where is Zephras Isle and how do you get there?

Zephras Isle floats in Skywall, the Elemental Plane of Air, according to Warcraft Wiki. A new Skyborne starts there automatically. Mainland players can reach it by flying boat: Gamewave (September 29, 2026) places the Alliance boat in Dalaran and the Horde boat in Mulgore, below Skywatcher Plateau. In the beta, Icy Veins (October 2, 2026) relayed a report that other races could do the island's introductory quests. Whether that stays is not confirmed. What is the Skyborne starting experience?

Blizzard calls it an elemental, sky-bound starting experience for levels 1 to 12. According to Blizzard and Warcraft Wiki, the wind spirits that protected the Skyborne have vanished, the structures and magic that held the island are failing, and the people are isolated and divided. Blizzard Watch adds that the Skyborne descend from Highborne exiles who made a bargain with the wind elementals of Skywall.

No quests are required to leave, according to Blizzard Watch (October 14, 2026). It estimates ten minutes on foot from Thendal Village to Valanaar, where each faction boards its own dock's skycutter. The Horde one lands near Thunder Bluff, not Orgrimmar. The Alliance one lands at Dalaran, with a portal to Stormwind inside the city. See the Skyborne overview for the lore.

The lock text shown at character creation is not documented in any source reviewed.
Blizzard's edition page lists Skyborne as a pack benefit but does not say outright that nothing else unlocks it. The "requires purchase" wording comes from Warcraft Tavern.
How long the Heroic and Epic packs stay on sale is not stated. Only the Collection has an end date, January 11, 2027.
Racials are still being tuned: Blizzard's introduction gave Wind Blessed as 1% haste, but Warcraft Tavern reports the October 15 beta build raised it to 3%.
The beta had a level 30 cap, so levels 31 to 60 after Zephras Isle are not covered.
