Gilneas
Gilneas is a secluded human kingdom occupying a rugged, storm-lashed peninsula south of Silverpine Forest. Following the Second War, King Genn Greymane severed ties with the outside world and locked his nation behind the colossal Greymane Wall, leaving neighboring territories abandoned and the kingdom shrouded in total isolation.
A Nation Withdrawn
Gilneas was once an assertive maritime powerhouse among the human realms, claiming lineage from the ancient empire of Arathor. King Genn Greymane participated reluctantly in the Second War, believing his kingdom could defend itself without foreign entanglements. Bitter over the loss of Gilnean lives and unwilling to help finance the internment camps for captured orcs, Greymane severed relations with the Alliance of Lordaeron. To permanently shield his realm from outside calamity, he ordered the construction of a massive stone barricade along the kingdom's northern frontier.
The Severed Frontier
Erecting the Greymane Wall demanded painful geopolitical compromises. The natural mountain passes used to anchor the ramparts left territories such as Ambermill and Pyrewood Village cut off on the northern side, stranded outside the gate. When the Scourge swept across Lordaeron during the Third War, King Greymane refused entreaties for aid and barred the doors to human refugees, leaving the surrounding villages to face the plague and the undead alone.
