WoW Forever vs Classic Era and Classic Plus: Key Differences
World of Warcraft: Forever (WoW Forever) is the version of WoW that Warcraft Wiki says the community calls Classic+: it keeps the original game's first-year Azeroth and level 60 cap, then adds new zones, quests, dungeons and a new race, while Classic Era stays locked to the original version. Blizzard describes Forever as "a new permanent home alongside modern and Classic WoW," and it launches on November 4, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. PST.
Quick answer: Classic Era is the original game before any expansion, kept as it stood. WoW Forever starts from the same old world, then grows it with content Classic never had. "Classic Plus" is a community and press label, not Blizzard's wording, as of October 29, 2026.

Two roads lead back to the old Azeroth. One keeps every stone where memory left it. The other passes the same gates, then turns toward ground the old maps never drew.
Key facts
- Classic Era: permanently locked to the original version, unchanged since it ran its course from 2019 to 2021 (Warcraft Wiki)
- WoW Forever launch: November 4, 2026, 3:00 p.m. PST, included with a World of Warcraft Subscription or Game Time (Blizzard)
- Setting: the first year of WoW, 25 years after the Dark Portal, after the Forsaken Kingdom campaign and before Molten Core (Warcraft Wiki, Blizzard)
- Level cap: 60, indefinitely (Warcraft Wiki)
Is WoW Forever the same as Classic Era?
No. Warcraft Wiki describes Classic Era as permanently locked to the original version, and Wikipedia says its realms stayed in the patch 1.12.1 state with all content phases unlocked. Forever is a different branch: Blizzard's announcement calls it "a new permanent home alongside modern and Classic WoW." Outlets word the relationship differently: Power Up Gaming (September 13, 2026) says Forever "is not a part of Classic WoW," while mein-mmo (September 12, 2026) says it is "meant to be part of modern WoW and WoW Classic."
Is WoW Forever "Classic Plus"?
Several outlets use the label. Warcraft Wiki says the community calls Forever "Classic+" and that it was known internally as Camelot. Warcraft Tavern's BlizzCon headline says "Classic+," and mein-mmo says Forever aims to "expand the Classic experience rather than change it." No Blizzard page opened for this review uses the label. What does WoW Forever add that Classic Era does not have?
- New lands: Warcraft Wiki lists Mount Hyjal, Riverglades, Shen'dralas, Zephras Isle and Dalaran in the Alterac Mountains.
- New quests and dungeons: Warcraft Tavern's BlizzCon report counts over 1,000 new quests and nine new dungeons, from Hall of Thanes (levels 13 to 18) to Shaper's Terrace (58 to 60). See the new dungeons.
- A new race and pairings: the Skyborne, plus six new race and class pairings such as Undead Paladin and Dwarf Shaman (Gfinity, October 2, 2026).
- Rulesets instead of realms: Blizzard lists Normal, PvP, Roleplaying and Hardcore, with Roleplay-PvP added on November 4 and Hardcore after launch. See rulesets.
- Raids on December 9: Blizzard says the Barrow Deeps, Hyjal Summit and Onyxia's Lair open then, not at launch.
- Different rules: per Warcraft Tavern's September 17 report of the developer Q&A, no GDKP raiding, no heroic dungeons or raids, no flex raiding and a required last name.
What stays the same?
The bones. Blizzard sets Forever on the original continents, before Molten Core, and Warcraft Wiki says the 1-to-60 journey was kept because it is found only in Classic.
What is not confirmed yet
- No Blizzard page opened for this review calls Forever "Classic Plus."
- Power Up Gaming says characters cannot move between Classic and Forever but notes Blizzard has not confirmed it.
- Blizzard's own Classic page could not be opened, so the Classic Era description comes from Warcraft Wiki and Wikipedia.
- The beta, which ended October 23, 2026, capped at level 30.
If you come from Classic Era, the free Lore Forever add-on adds a Lore button to the quest dialog that opens the quest's story.
