WoW Forever Mining Guide: Trainers, Ore, Smelting and Camp Bonuses
Mining in World of Warcraft: Forever (WoW Forever) is a primary gathering profession that you learn from a Junior Mining Trainer or a starter-zone quest, train in ranks up to skill 300, and smelt into bars at a Forge. Compared with Classic, Mining adds dynamic ore spawns, ores that stack to 20, two new endgame bars (Azerothium and Heavy Thorium) and a camp item called the Lodestone that buffs Attack Power.
Quick answer: Learn Mining at skill 1, mine Copper with a Mining Pick, then train at Mining 50, 125 and 200 for the next ranks. Smelting needs a Forge. Pair it with Blacksmithing or Engineering, which use the bars.

Key facts
- Profession type: primary gathering; you need a Mining Pick and a Forge for smelting (Warcraft Tavern)
- Training ranks: Journeyman at Mining 50, Expert at 125, Artisan at 200; character levels 10, 20 and 35 (WoW Professions, Warcraft Tavern)
- Starter trainers: Junior Mining Trainers teach only up to skill 75 and no smelting (WoW Professions)
- Ore stacks: 20, up from 10 in Classic (WoW Professions)
- New bars: Azerothium Bar (smelt at 275) and Heavy Thorium Bar (smelt at 300) (WoW Professions)
- Camp items: Lodestone at skill 20, Rock Garden at 140, Molten Foundry at 300 (Method, WoW Professions)
- Best pairings: Blacksmithing and Engineering (Warcraft Tavern)
Where do you learn Mining in WoW Forever?
According to Warcraft Tavern, every starting zone for both factions offers Mining through a special quest and a Junior Mining Trainer. Warcraft Tavern names Kelsey Fargo in Northshire as one trainer. WoW Professions lists a trainer for each starting area and says the Junior trainers stop teaching at skill 75, so you must visit a full trainer afterwards. The capitals have full trainers: Makaru in Orgrimmar, Gelman Stonehand in Stormwind and Geofram Bouldertoe in Ironforge. Darnassus has none, and the nearest is Kurdram Stonehammer in Auberdine.
On Zephras Isle there is no trainer in Thendal Village. WoW Professions says the quest Harvesting Windstones rewards Mining for Dummies there. See the Zephras Isle guide and the WoW Forever professions guide.
What skill do you need to mine each ore?
WoW Professions lists the vein requirements from the beta. A Mining Pick lets you work a vein repeatedly, but Warcraft Tavern says only the first successful mine of a vein grants a skill point.
- Copper: from skill 1, with Poor Copper Veins in starter areas
- Tin Vein: Mining 65
- Silver Vein: Mining 75
- Iron Deposit: Mining 125
- Gold Vein: Mining 155
- Mithril Deposit: Mining 175
- Truesilver Deposit: Mining 230
- Small Thorium Vein: Mining 245
- Rich Thorium Vein: Mining 275
Warcraft Tavern says nodes use dynamic spawn rates, so more nearby players mean faster respawns. WoW Professions describes a cave route with three vein spawn points and a respawn of about two minutes. Its Alliance pick for skill 65 to 125 is the Wetlands cave and its Horde pick is the Silverpine Forest cave, and it warns that mobs respawn much faster than in Classic.
What is new in Mining compared with Classic?
- Higher zones blend spawn points, so an Iron Deposit may be replaced by a Gold Vein (Warcraft Tavern).
- New materials drop from veins: Pyrite from Copper, Tin and Iron, Bauxite from Mithril, and Pitchblende from Thorium.
- Smelt Azerothium needs 2 Pitchblende and 1 Coal at a Forge. Smelt Heavy Thorium needs Heavy Thorium Ore and a Molten Foundry. Both are learned from any Mining trainer.
- Heavy Thorium Ore comes from a Heavy Thorium Vein in the Scourge area of Mount Hyjal (WoW Professions).
Blacksmithing uses the new bars most, with a few Engineering recipes (WoW Professions). The Mount Hyjal guide covers that zone.
How does Mining work with camping?
Blizzard's deep dive panel recap says a Basic Campfire holds up to three crafted objects, one per player, and each profession has three objects. The first is learned at skill 20, and advanced ones come from Blueprints.
For Mining, Method lists the Lodestone at skill 20, the Rock Garden at 140 and the Molten Foundry at 300. WoW Professions adds the effects: the Lodestone gives a melee Attack Power buff and does not stack with Blessing of Might. The Rock Garden spawns a common mining node over time and also gives the Lodestone buff. Its Blueprint drops from Relic Guardians at the Excavation Site in the Wetlands. The Molten Foundry is needed to smelt Heavy Thorium. Read the full camping guide for the rules.
Where do Mining skill bonuses come from?
Warcraft Tavern lists Enchant Gloves Mining (+2 skill) and Advanced Mining (+5). The new Miner's Cape (+2) drops from Miner Johnson in the Deadmines, according to WoW Professions. Rhahk'Zor in the same dungeon drops Rockslicer, which has 30 uses and mines Copper, Tin, Silver and Iron veins without the profession (Warcraft Tavern).
Warcraft Tavern recommends Blacksmithing and Engineering as pairings. See the best professions and gold making guides. The free Lore Forever add-on shows zone and quest background while you farm.
What is not confirmed yet
- Every figure here comes from beta data. WoW Professions says requirements may change before launch, and the beta level cap was 30, so routes for Arathi Highlands and Desolace were not fully tested.
- Warcraft Tavern says Find Minerals no longer blocks other minimap tracking. WoW Professions says only one tracking type can be active. The sources disagree.
- Warcraft Tavern says Rich Thorium Vein nodes are needed from skill 295, while WoW Professions says Rich Thorium Veins need Mining 275.
- Icy Veins' October 21 camping preview calls its table a sample and lists no Mining camp item, while Method's table lists the Lodestone. No source I opened describes Scrolls or Research for Mining.
