Where is Mount Hyjal and how do you unlock it?

Warcraft Wiki places Mount Hyjal in northern Kalimdor. The mountain is larger than the zone: it spans Hyjal proper, Winterspring, Moonglade and Felwood, plus edges of Darkshore, Ashenvale and Azshara, and its summit holds the World Tree Nordrassil.

For the new Forever zone, Blizzard names Darkwhisper Gorge as the route. Warcraft Tavern says players approach from the gorge, and Icy Veins says to travel south through it from Winterspring. No source describes a quest, attunement or level requirement. Warcraft Tavern says no other unlock conditions have been given. What is the story behind Mount Hyjal?

Warcraft Wiki and Wowpedia agree on the history. The Battle of Mount Hyjal was the final battle of the Third War. Archimonde led his demonic army toward the summit to reach the second Well of Eternity, and orcs, humans and night elves fought him together. At the end the wisps of Hyjal converged on the World Tree Nordrassil and destroyed Archimonde. The explosion damaged Nordrassil, and both wikis say the night elves lost their immortality as a result.

Warcraft Wiki's Durotar page dates the Battle of Mount Hyjal to year 21 after the Dark Portal. WoW Forever is set in the first year of World of Warcraft, a few years later, so the zone shows a land recovering from that fight rather than the battle itself.
