WoW Forever Druid Beginner Guide: Forms, Specs and Leveling
The Druid is a shapeshifter who can cast, tank, heal and fight in melee, and Warcraft Tavern's beta guide says Feral cat has the smoothest route for leveling. Bear Form arrives at level 10 through a class quest, Cat Form at level 20 and Travel Form at level 30. Skyborne is new, so each faction now has two Druid races.
Quick answer: Level as Feral. Learn Bear Form at level 10 as an emergency tool, switch to Cat Form at level 20, build combo points with Claw or Shred and spend them with Rip. Use Nature's Grasp to escape, Travel Form for short trips and a Moonglade teleport to save travel time.

Who can be a Druid
Druids are available to Night Elf and High Order Skyborne on the Alliance, and to Tauren and Windshaper Skyborne on the Horde. Skyborne Druids are new in Forever. See the race and class guide and the Skyborne guide.
The three specializations
- Balance: a ranged caster using Arcane and Nature damage, with Moonkin Form as its capstone talent. New talents include Genesis and Nature's Majesty, and Eclipse alternates Wrath and Starfire. Warcraft Tavern says Balance is "looking like" an improvement but does not confirm it.
- Feral: a hybrid tree with two roles, melee DPS in Cat Form and tanking in Bear Form. Berserk is the new capstone talent, and Shifting Power replaces powershifting.
- Restoration: a heal-over-time healer. In Forever, heals over time stack and can crit, and Wild Growth is a new area heal over time. Swiftmend no longer removes the heal over time it uses. The guide does not say whether Tree of Life exists in Forever.
The forms and when you get them
- Bear Form (level 10, class quest): the tank form, using a Rage bar. It raises Attack Power, armor and health, and Growl needs it.
- Aquatic Form (level 16, class quest): faster swimming and underwater breathing.
- Cat Form (level 20, class quest): the melee DPS form, using Energy and enabling combo points, plus Dash and Prowl.
- Travel Form (level 30, class trainer): an instant-cast form for travel.
- Moonkin Form (level 40, Balance talent): only Balance Druids get it. It raises armor and gives a spell critical strike buff.
Shapeshifting also breaks Polymorph and movement-impairing effects. In Forever, consumables can be used while shapeshifted, and Druids gather herbs in Travel Form.
Key spells by level
Warcraft Tavern's leveling guide lists:
- Level 1: Wrath and Healing Touch
- Level 4: Moonfire
- Level 6: Thorns
- Level 8: Entangling Roots
- Level 10: Nature's Grasp
- Level 18: Faerie Fire
- Level 20: Prowl, Claw, Rip, Shred
- Level 24: Rake
- Level 26: Dash
- Level 30: Leader of the Pack
- Level 40: Berserk
A simple leveling routine
Before Feral, keep Thorns up, pull with Wrath, apply Moonfire, then cast Wrath until the enemy is nearly dead and finish in melee. Use Nature's Grasp as an escape tool and Healing Touch to heal.
In Cat Form, the guide's routine is:
- Keep Thorns up on yourself.
- Open with Faerie Fire or pull from range.
- Build combo points with Claw, or Shred if you are behind the target.
- Use Shifting Power if you have the talent and are below 50 Energy.
- Use Rip at 4 to 5 combo points, and Rake to apply the bleed.
- Skip bleeds on targets about to die and finish with Shred or Claw.
Other tips from the Druid guide: Track Humanoids to find mobs on the minimap, and teleport to Moonglade to cut travel time.
What is different in Forever
- Revive is a regular resurrection spell, while Rebirth stays as the combat resurrection.
- Faerie Fire and Nature's Grasp are now baseline.
- Polearms are usable from level 20.
- Feral tanks gain Primal Bite and Lacerate. Druids still cannot Block or Parry.
- Dual Talent Specialization and the Equipment Manager are available.
- Talented from the Legacy system unlocks talents up to 5 levels earlier. See the Legacy guide.
Herbalism, Alchemy and Leatherworking suit the class; Tauren's Cultivation picks extra herbs. See professions. The free Lore Forever add-on is fan-made and does not change class play.
What is still uncertain
Warcraft Tavern's builds were written for the beta, capped at level 30 plus 5 Legacy talent points, with level 60 builds due at launch. The guide says it does not yet know how each build will perform at end game or how the math will work at level 60. It also says the impact of Haste on Feral DPS "remains to be seen". Its Druid guides disagree slightly on Cat Form, since the main guide gives no level and the leveling guide says level 20.
