Who Is Sally Whitemane? The High Inquisitor of the Scarlet Monastery
Sally Whitemane is the High Inquisitor of the Scarlet Crusade, a human priestess of the Light who directs the Crusade from the Cathedral of the Scarlet Monastery in Tirisfal Glades. In World of Warcraft: Forever (WoW Forever), set in the first year of World of Warcraft, she is the final boss alongside Scarlet Commander Mograine in the Cathedral wing, a dungeon for levels 38 to 46.
Quick answer: Whitemane grew up as a friend of Renault Mograine, lost her family to the Plague of Undeath, and rose through the Scarlet Crusade to become its High Inquisitor. Players meet her at the end of the Scarlet Monastery Cathedral, where Mograine fights first and she joins the second phase.

Some faith is gentle, and some is a locked door. Whitemane began with the gentle kind, a priestess whose gift for the Light was real. The cathedral where players find her is where her story and the Crusade's meet, and it is worth knowing both before you open the door.

Who was Sally Whitemane before the Crusade?
Warcraft Wiki says she was a priestess of the Light who grew up in Southshore with Renault Mograine, and Vanilla WoW Archive places a young Sally Whitemane in Southshore in the Old Hillsbrad Foothills. Blizzard Watch's Know Your Lore column agrees that she grew up with Mograine and describes her as a priestess with an innate facility with the Light.
Warcraft Wiki and Blizzard Watch both say that during the Third War she was forced to destroy her own family after the Plague of Undeath infected them. Read What Happened to Lordaeron? for that plague.
How did she become High Inquisitor?
Warcraft Wiki says Mograine sent her to defend Hearthglen from the Scourge, and Blizzard Watch says she led Crusade forces there. Warcraft Wiki and Vanilla WoW Archive name her High Inquisitor, directing the Crusade's activities from the Cathedral. Vanilla WoW Archive says the Monastery was once a center of learning for Lordaeron's priesthood.
The Crusade's hidden manipulation, which Blizzard Watch ties to the demon Balnazzar, is a spoiler covered in The Scarlet Crusade, along with the order's origins.
What happens in the Scarlet Monastery Cathedral?
Warcraft Tavern says the Cathedral is the last of the Monastery's four wings, for levels 38 to 46, entered through a door that opens only with The Scarlet Key. High Inquisitor Fairbanks waits in a hidden room first. The final encounter is two phases: Mograine fights first, he is always resurrected after he falls, and Whitemane joins him in the second phase. Vanilla WoW Archive says that in the original game she resurrects Mograine and shields herself before the fight resumes. See the full Scarlet Monastery guide for the route.
Warcraft Tavern lists these quests under the Cathedral: Into The Scarlet Monastery from Varimathras in Undercity for the Horde, and In the Name of the Light from Raleigh the Devout in Hillsbrad Foothills for the Alliance. Vanilla WoW Archive says both of those characters want the Monastery's leadership removed, for different reasons. For the undead who hate the Crusade, read The Forsaken Explained.
The free Lore Forever add-on shows readable background as you travel through Tirisfal Glades, and the optional Willo voice companion can answer lore questions about Whitemane. Both are fan-made.
What is not confirmed yet
- Blizzard has not published a Forever script for the Whitemane fight, so mechanics here come from Warcraft Tavern's guide and Vanilla WoW Archive's description of the original.
- Warcraft Tavern's Cathedral page does not describe sleep or shield phases, so they are unconfirmed for Forever.
- Later events in her story, including her death and what follows, are outside WoW Forever.
