WoW Forever Scarlet Monastery Guide: Wings, Bosses and Lore
Scarlet Monastery is a returning four-wing dungeon in the north-east corner of Tirisfal Glades in World of Warcraft: Forever (WoW Forever): the Graveyard, Library, Armory and Cathedral, together covering roughly levels 30 to 46. Warcraft Tavern says the dungeons have changed little from WoW Classic apart from updated loot and rewards. Sources disagree by a few levels on each wing, so check the in-game recommendation.
Quick answer: Run the Graveyard first, then the Library, whose last boss Arcanist Doan guards a chest holding The Scarlet Key. The key opens the locked doors to the Armory and Cathedral. The Cathedral has the final bosses, Scarlet Commander Mograine and High Inquisitor Whitemane.

Key facts
- Level range: 30 to 46 in total (Warcraft Tavern). Wing ranges differ by source, see below.
- Location: North-east corner of Tirisfal Glades (Warcraft Tavern, Warcraft Wiki).
- Wings: Graveyard, Library, Armory, Cathedral (Warcraft Tavern).
- Bosses: Interrogator Vishas and Bloodmage Thalnos; Houndmaster Loksey and Arcanist Doan; Herod; High Inquisitor Fairbanks, then Mograine and Whitemane (Warcraft Tavern).
- Key: The Scarlet Key drops from a chest behind Arcanist Doan (Warcraft Tavern).
- Quests: Eight in total, two Alliance and five Horde plus a Mage quest (Warcraft Tavern).
- Status: A returning dungeon, not one of the nine new ones (Warcraft Tavern, Warcraft Wiki).
How do you get to Scarlet Monastery?
The entrance is in the north-east corner of Tirisfal Glades, according to Warcraft Tavern. Horde players can reach it easily from the Undercity. Alliance players face a longer trek, likely through Silverpine Forest from Hillsbrad Foothills or the Alterac Mountains.
Inside the main building each wing has its own portal. The Graveyard portal is the open one farthest left as you enter, per Warcraft Tavern's Graveyard guide. The Armory and Cathedral guides both say the door outside their portal needs The Scarlet Key. Warcraft Tavern's overview page says the Armory and Library portals are locked, which contradicts the wing pages. The Library page says the key chest opens the two higher-level wings, so plan on the Armory and Cathedral being locked.
If nobody has the key, another player who does can open the door for you. Wowpedia notes that in Classic these doors could also be opened by lockpicking or with a Large Seaforium Charge. No source confirms whether that still works in Forever.
What level is each Scarlet Monastery wing?
Three sources give three sets of numbers.
- Warcraft Tavern: Graveyard 30 to 38, Library 33 to 41, Armory 36 to 44, Cathedral 38 to 46.
- Warcraft Wiki (Forever page): Graveyard 31 to 37, Library 34 to 40, Armory 37 to 43, Cathedral 39 to 45.
- Wowhead: Armory 32 to 42 and Cathedral 35 to 45, with the other wings not listed.
The ranges share the same order and overlap heavily, so the practical advice is the same: finish the Graveyard around the mid-30s, move to the Library, and arrive at the Armory and Cathedral near the low 40s. Boss levels from Warcraft Tavern's wing guides run from level 32 (Vishas) to level 40 (Herod and Fairbanks).
What are the Graveyard and Library bosses?
Graveyard. Interrogator Vishas (level 32) is first and comes with Scarlet adds, which Warcraft Tavern says to kill before the boss. Bloodmage Thalnos (level 34) is last, at the bottom of the crypt. Warcraft Tavern says his Shadow Bolt, Flame Spike and Flame Shock cannot be interrupted. Melee players and low-health tanks should run from Flame Spike, while ranged players and healers should stand far back. Three rare bosses can also spawn: Ironspire (Curse of Weakness and poison clouds), Fallen Champion (Cleave) and Azshir the Sleepless (fear and Soul Siphon, which should be interrupted).
Library. Houndmaster Loksey (level 34) fights beside three Scarlet Tracking Hounds. Kill the hounds first. Loksey's Bloodlust makes the group hit very hard, and shamans and priests can dispel it. Arcanist Doan (level 37) is the last boss. When he casts Detonation everyone should leave the room and hide against the walls. He casts Silence often and Polymorph can be avoided by standing 30 yards away. His spells cannot be interrupted, but a mana drain stops him casting. The chest with The Scarlet Key sits behind him.
What are the Armory and Cathedral bosses?
Armory. Herod (level 40) is the only boss. Warcraft Tavern calls the fight tank and spank. His Whirlwind makes him immune while he hits nearby players hard, so melee should step back during it. After he dies, dozens of Scarlet Monastery Acolytes rush the room, and the tank should build threat on them before area damage starts.
Cathedral. High Inquisitor Fairbanks (level 40) waits in a hidden room on the right side of the cathedral. Interrupt his Heal when he is low, because all his spells are interruptible. He often casts Dispel Magic on the tank. The final fight pairs Scarlet Commander Mograine and High Inquisitor Whitemane at the altar. Mograine always resurrects after his first defeat, then Whitemane joins for a second phase. The tank must generate threat quickly when that phase begins, and healers need mana for both phases. For group roles, see the dungeon groups guide.
What quests belong to Scarlet Monastery?
Warcraft Tavern's quest page lists eight, and none of their rewards are named.
- Alliance: In the Name of the Light (level 34, Raleigh the Devout in Hillsbrad Foothills) and Mythology of the Titans (level 28, Librarian Mae Paledust in Ironforge).
- Horde: Into the Scarlet Monastery (level 33, Varimathras), Hearts of Zeal (level 30, Master Apothecary Faranell), Test of Lore (level 25, Parqual Fintallas) and Vorrel's Revenge (level 25, from Vorrel Sengutz inside the Graveyard). The first three start in the Undercity.
- Tauren, Troll and Orc only: Compendium of the Fallen (level 28, Sage Truthseeker, Thunder Bluff).
- Mage: Rituals of Power (level 30, Magus Tirth in Thousand Needles).
Some quests must be finished in a specific wing, so collect them before you enter.
What is the story of the Scarlet Monastery?
Warcraft Wiki and Wowpedia agree on the basics. The Old Monastery was a fortified cathedral of the Church of the Holy Light in north-east Tirisfal Glades, and it trained paladins. After the Third War the Knights of the Silver Hand used it as a base. The Scarlet Crusade then took it over and renamed it the Scarlet Monastery. Wowpedia describes the Crusade as a fanatical force against the undead. Both wikis name Renault Mograine as commander and Sally Whitemane as High Inquisitor. The Third War ended in year 21 after the Dark Portal, per Warcraft Wiki, a few years before Forever's setting. Neither wiki gives a usable backstory for Fairbanks, Herod, Loksey, Doan or Vishas, so this guide gives none.

What is not confirmed yet?
- Wing level ranges: Three sources, three sets of numbers.
- Key doors: Whether the Cathedral door needs the key, as the Cathedral and Library guides say, or the Library door, as the overview says.
- Loot: Warcraft Tavern mentions updated loot but names only The Scarlet Key.
- Beta data: The beta ended at level 30, so the level 30 to 46 wings come from guides and not from public play. Details may change by launch on November 4, 2026.
