Warsong Gulch

Warsong Gulch is a forested valley on the border of Ashenvale and the Barrens, and the scene of a battle between the Horde and the Alliance that never truly stops. Orcs of the Warsong clan cut Ashenvale's timber there for the Horde, and the night elves of Silverwing Hold fight to drive them out of the sacred forest. Fighters of every race come to lend sword or spell, each side raiding the other's stronghold to carry off its flag.

Timber and Blood

The Horde built its new home in Kalimdor with wood, and much of that wood comes from Ashenvale. The Warsong clan, Grom Hellscream's warriors, have cut into the forest since the Horde first landed, and their Warsong Mill at the gulch's end feeds the Horde's camps and walls. To the night elves, every felled tree wounds a forest they have guarded for ten thousand years, and they have not forgotten that Grom's warriors once slew Cenarius in these woods.

Outriders and Sentinels

The Horde's fighters here are the Warsong Outriders, supplied from Mor'shan Base Camp on the Barrens' northern edge, where Kelm Hargunth keeps them armed and fed. Against them stand the Silverwing Sentinels of Silverwing Hold, night elf warriors sworn to drive every invader from Ashenvale, supplied by Illiyana Moonblaze at Silverwing Grove. Allies of both flock to the gulch: dwarves and humans beside the Sentinels, tauren, trolls and Forsaken beside the Outriders.

The Struggle for the Banners

Each side holds a stronghold at one end of the gulch, the Warsong Mill for the Horde and Silverwing Hold for the night elves, and each keeps its banner there. The battle is a contest of raids: fighters break into the enemy's stronghold, seize its flag and race it back to their own while the defenders hunt them down. Every flag brought home is a blow to the enemy's pride, and the side that captures the most wins the day.
