Kobold

Kobolds are diminutive, rat-like subterranean humanoids found scuttling through mines and caverns across Azeroth. Notorious for their obsessive devotion to the tallow candles strapped to their heads, they are individually cowardly but dangerous in swarms, fiercely defending their dig sites against any who threaten their light.

Miners of the Dark

Standing barely four feet tall, kobolds are filthy, subterranean scavengers who spend their lives delving into the earth. Though they possess low-light vision, the deepest shafts are pitch-black, compelling every kobold to affix a crude candle to their head. While cowardly when cornered alone, kobolds breed in massive numbers and work with relentless energy. When agitated, their rat-like tails whip violently, and they overwhelm intruders in frantic mobs, beating foes to death with heavy iron mining picks.

You No Take Candle!

To a kobold, a candle is far more than a light source; it is an existential shield. They harbor a deep, primal terror of the pitch-black tunnels, believing that the unlit darkness will actively consume them.

Subterranean Pests of the Kingdoms

Across the Eastern Kingdoms, kobolds frequently overrun commercial mines. In Elwynn Forest, a clan displaced from the Redridge Mountains seized the Echo Ridge, Fargodeep, and Jasperlode mines, driven in part by Riverpaw gnolls and the Defias Brotherhood. In Loch Modan, the Tunnel Rat clan seized the Silver Stream Mine from the dwarven Miners' League. Even on Kalimdor, kobolds plague industrial digs, laboring for the Venture Company in Stonetalon or uncovering strange minerals in Thousand Needles.
