Brotherhood of Northshire
The Brotherhood of Northshire is a holy human clerical order dedicated to the Church of the Holy Light, based out of Northshire Abbey in Elwynn Forest. Originally known as the Clerics of Northshire, the order suffered catastrophic losses during the First War before being reformed under Archbishop Alonsus Faol. Today, the Brotherhood serves as both a spiritual sanctuary and the primary training ground for fledgling Alliance defenders.
The Clerics of the First War
Centuries ago, pious missionaries traveled south from Lordaeron into the kingdom of Stormwind, establishing Northshire Abbey to minister to the people and soothe the realm through the Holy Light. Originally known as the Holy Order of Northshire Clerics, their compassion was legendary—they even tended to injured gnolls and jungle trolls during past border wars. When the Orcish Horde crossed through the Dark Portal, the clerics marched bravely to the front lines without armor or weapons to heal fallen soldiers. Because their healing sustained the Stormwind Army, the orcs ruthlessly targeted them. The order was decimated, the abbey was ransacked and burned, and the surviving clerics were forced to flee north across the sea to Southshore with Sir Anduin Lothar.
The Spark of the Paladins
The slaughter of the Northshire clerics sent shockwaves through the human kingdoms. Realizing that faith alone could not withstand an axe without armor and martial discipline, Archbishop Alonsus Faol resolved to create warriors who possessed both the sacred powers of the Light and the martial mastery of a knight. Drawing upon the surviving clerics and devout knights, Faol formed the Knights of the Silver Hand, giving rise to humanity's first paladins. In this way, the sacrifice of Northshire's fallen healers became the very foundation for the holy warriors who broke the Horde in the Second War.
Rebuilding and Present Duty
Following the reclamation of Stormwind and the destruction of the Dark Portal, Archbishop Faol oversaw the rebuilding of Northshire Abbey and reorganized the order as the Brotherhood of Northshire. Now in 25 ADP, Northshire Abbey stands as a quiet yet vital center where new recruits gather to begin their service to the realm. Under figures like Priestess Anetta, Brother Sammuel, and Brother Paxton, the Brotherhood attends to the spiritual health of the valley, preserves ancient texts in their library, and trains the next generation of defenders to confront brigands, wolves, and the gathering shadows across Elwynn Forest.
