Sludge Fen

Sludge Fen is a toxic industrial oil field operated by the Venture Company in the northeastern Barrens. Once a pristine, crystal-blue pool, the wetland was transformed into an oily quagmire after the goblins erected drilling platforms and machinery. The operation is overseen by Supervisor Lugwizzle and attracts constant industrial espionage and sabotage from rivals in Ratchet.

Before the arrival of the Venture Company, Sludge Fen was an untainted pool of crystal-clear water fed by natural springs in the arid Barrens. Driven by the relentless pursuit of profit, the Venture Company constructed an extensive oil-drilling operation over the basin, despoiling the wetland into a sludge-filled reservoir coated in heavy industrial waste. Overseen by Supervisor Lugwizzle, goblin drillers, engineers, and overseers pump crude oil around the clock, heedless of the environmental ruin. The waters are now thick with runoff and toxic byproducts, leaving the native aquatic life choked beneath the grease.
